My son had been wanting to try a Shrimp Po' Boy for a while now, and I'd been meaning to check this place out since it opened. When I drove by today, I figured this was the perfect opportunity! I popped in about 3:15pm and was greeted instantly by the chef and another young lady working the counter. Both of them were genuinely nice, made me feel appreciated as soon as I walked up to the counter, and seemed to really enjoy their work and their customers. I placed my order for 3 Shrimp Po' Boys and was informed it would be about a 10-12 minute wait. It seems everything is made to order, which I appreciate. While I was getting my food to go, I did notice that there are 2 tables inside for guests that would prefer to dine in. The entire restaurant looked VERY clean. There is also quite a bit of Louisiana and Cajun themed decor, which gave what used to be a pretty plain old building a nice pop of color. I chatted a bit with the young lady behind the counter until they got a little rush of customers. I got lots of happy vibes from everyone working there, which always makes me feel happy to patronize a business. Finally, My food was brought out to me and I was on my way. It smelled amazing, so I couldn't wait to see and taste it. When I got home, I opened the bag, pulled out the boxes and opened mine up. The sight certainly did not disappoint, and I wish I would've taken a picture, but I was so hungry and it smelled and looked so good, that I just couldn't wait any longer. Let me tell you, this is the best Shrimp Po' Boy I've ever had! The shrimp breading was so flavorful and the crisp was just perfect -- not at all greasy or soggy, but perfectly cooked shrimp in a wonderfully crispy, medium-spicy crust so tasty you dont even want to leave the dropped crumb behind. Did I mention the toasted bread it was served on, or the amazing sauce that it was served with? Well, I did now. Oh, and the potato wedges...the seasoning on those was pretty good, too! I should note that they did have a chalk board with daily specials written on a board. While I don't regret that I missed these specials when I placed my order, they sounded tasty. In fact, I did attempt to order the bacon wrapped scallops to add to my order as a little appetizer to share with the family. Sadly, they were already 86'd for the day, but I'll be checking back for those in the future. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and highly recommend this little gem to anyone craving some amazing Cajun eats. Well done Kyndra & staff! Customer appreciation and pride in product is very clearly evident and so refreshing to see and taste. I can't wait to see this...
Read moreLet me tell you, don't do what I did. I drove by this place for a couple months, not knowing it was open. It looked like a shuttered restaurant, so I never checked it out. Then as Mardi Gras approached, I heard buzz about how good their cajun food is. So I knew I had to check them out.
First thing I did, was to start following them on Facebook. When I did, I saw that the Saturday of Mardi Gras, their special was going to be a Chicken and Fried Pickle Sandwich with Potato Wedges. Being a fan of Fried Pickles, I knew where I was eating.
OMG! I'll start off by saying, they have the absolute Red Beans and Rice. It's the best I have had outside of the French Quarter. The day's special was - Fried Pickle Lover's Crispy Chicken Po Boy with Potato Wedges and that is what I ordered. The chicken was pickle brined, placed on fresh French Bread from Duke's Bakery (I love when local supports local). The bread was smeared with house-made remoulade and served with; tomato, lettuce and pickles underneath. On top of the crispy chicken, was a trio of Fried Pickles giving it an extra crunch. The entire sammie was delicious.
The Potato Wedges were huge and I was surprised to learn, they are cut fresh to order. You cannot get any fresher than that. They were lightly seasoned and still had the skins on, which I like.
With it being Mardi Gras week-end, I ordered a slice of King Cake. Dessert was not their thing this week-end, it did not shine like the other food items.
The reasons for shorting them a star, when my meal was so stellar is as follow: 1) Non-Eco Friendly To-Go Vessels, 2)To-Go Vessel not vented to release steam. 3) The disappointing King Cake and 4) Service - It was friendly, but the staff was overwhelmed with the volume, but they were doing a good job. I just had to be honest.
I am sure when I come back to try the gumbo and shrimp po boy, they'll get a 5...
Read moreI love this place and it's the only option worth going to for cajun food in the area. I've yet to encounter a menu item that isn't awesome. I usually get the gumbo or the seafood potato though. One of the coolest things about this place is that they have daily specials that are actually special. Almost every day there is something totally different to try. They do occasionally repeat a daily special they've had before, but that's not a bad thing since some of them are amazing and would be great on the standard menu. I imagine some items are too much extra overhead to do literally every day. Their core menu is exceptional. Frankly, where a lot of restaurants go wrong is having way too many menu options to do any of them particularly well. I think they've got a good variety without being too little or too much. The photos are of the seafood potato and the daily special they had today, boudin balls. Holy moly, those suckers are filling. I've never had to wait longer than about ten or fifteen minutes for my order while dining inside either. Their sweet tea is also good, which I can't say for every place...
