Lovett is a Soul Food place in Alton, IL. I had looked forward to visiting for so long. The menu on Facebook look so inviting but yet so disappointing šŸ˜ž! Before entering there was either a BAD SPILL or Vomit 🤢 šŸ¤• right at the entrence. That should have been a red flag. We went in and was kindly greeted. It was open seating. But oh boy, this restaurant is so old and out dated. It used to be a tavern that needs lots of love ā¤ļø. The booths are the original booths and the seats are torn and worn. They tried some repair with grey tape, but it has seen its days. The mop and bucket is in the aisle near the bathrooms and the broom was setting at a table across from us. The carpet was SO OLD AND WORN šŸ”„ IT WAS BLACK AND STICKY. āš«ļø 😳!! I ordered HOT WINGS which tasted like hot sauce and honey. A second order was Buffalo Fish. Presentation was nice, but the fish didn't cook long enough. It was too soft for fish. In the middle of eating, the owner came and ask us to pay now because she had to leave to pick her grandchild up. Another person had called in an order and it was ready. Another person came in and claimed the order. When the right person came to pick-up, she told him that somebody already picked the order up. He asked her if she checked the name, "she said no" her nephew checks names. I felt sorry for the call in customer. I dont know how the establishment got a grade to stay open. It is HORRIBLE!!!

"This food is good for my soul, that's why they call it soul food." Quote from my 10 years old granddaughter while at Lovett's Soul Food for dinner. "This food is life." Quote from my 7 years old granddaughter while at Lovett's Soul Food for dinner. My review is the food is delicious, filling, satisfying, and full of flavor. Our server and service was great. Home made goodness is found here. Make your next take out or dine in at Lovett's. We ate some of our food before taking pictures.

Listen if I walk into a place and the chef is referred to as "Auntie".... the soul in Soul Food resides within! Lovett's food gave me the southern feel in a small town. I mean the Chicken Alfredo and their signature sauce were heaven sent, And it was wrapped in a warm atmosphere. They way the people of the area interacted you would think this place was a community pillar and more well known. Well it needs to be! Will for sure be going again and again!

Came here for lunch while on a jobsite, and BOY OH BOY, this is by far THE BEST lunch I will have this week and likely this year! I got the chicken in spicy alfredo sauce and the fried corn. I genuinely think this may be the best Alfredo I've ever eaten, and I cook a mean chicken alfredo lol. Seriously, absolutely DELICIOUS! The fried corn was SPOT ON, seasoned perfectly, and I finished it in about a minute and a half haha. I'm going to be in alton for a couple days this next week and the week after, and I know EXACTLY where I'm going for lunch! The service was exceptional, I didn't catch his name, but the gentleman behind the counter was extremely personable and funny. I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars, as you, sir, earned it. I rarely tip more than 15% for carryout, but even 25% just wasn't enough, wish I could've gone back and changed that lol. He went so above and beyond, and the food was DELICIOUS! I will definitely be back, and recommend to anyone and everyone I know, especially in Alton haha. Thank you for helping make my Monday a pretty darn good one haha....

I never like talking bad about family places but I was so disappointed. We waited for over an hour and the cook was just horribly slow. We saw people come in and speak with the cook and leave with food before we got ours.

Our greens we paid for were completely forgotten.

The carpet, you could feel your shoes stick to it.

The host was amazing, we let them know it was our first time he offered great suggestions. The catfish is amazing and the batter for the chicken wings is excellent.

The smothered porkchops, had an almost chemical or refirdgerator taste to it I couldn't describe it. We went in the slow time between 1 and 3 and we had to leave. We were going to be late for work once it got closer to 3.

The host was kind and continued to ask about our food but the cook pushed other food out. The host apologized to us several times. It was not his fault, I understand how a restaurant works, but someone should work on time management for...
