Went in about 1 PM on a Wednesday. Two tables had people in them...the rest of the place was empty. I asked to sit at a table, was told I could sit anywhere, when I started to sit at a table, I was told to sit in a booth. Should have left then. Waitress did not even take my drink order OR give me a menu... told me MY waitress would be right with me....Should have left then. My waitress finally showed up, asked what I wanted to drink. Went off to get my half n half tea with NO ice. Came back in a bit with tea WITH ICE, still no chips n salsa and NO MENU. Should left then... She asked if I was ready to order, I said no that I needed a menu and asked if they served chips n salsa. She said, "Oh yes". Went to get the chips n salsa and I figured a MENU. She brought chips n salsa and asked IF I was ready to order...I said I need a menu. She laughed and went off to get the menu. Should have walked out then. Ive now been in this place that is almost empty 20 + min and still have not placed my order. Should have left, BUT their salsa was top notch, so I was trying to convince mysrlf to stay. Finally placed my order...2 ground beef enchilladas & 1 cheese enchillada, with rice and charro beans. Food came and I asked for MORE salsa. I also had to ask for silverware...as she was walking away. She laughed and said "Oh you need a fork." She brought me 1 fork... Remember this place is near empty and I am this waitress only customer. Should have left then. More salsa showed up when I was about half finished eating. I asked for more tea... I finished eating most of my food...and waited and waited AND WAITED. Two new customers came in and I flagged that waitress down and asked for my check. She finally shows up and asks if I NEED anything ? I said check please. My check came, and it had my meal and a COKE...coke was $3.99. I got her to come back by waving both arms in the air. I questioned the coke and not tea figuring she hit the wrong button. She said all drinks are the same price. I paid the $19 for lunch....left NO TIP. Wrote a little note on the check about the poor service and maybe she should consider a different profession. Salas was geeat...if and when you could get it. Food below average...charro beans were watery and had zero flavor and were luke warm. Ground Beef enchilladas were below average..and I cant say how the cheese was, since I got 3 ground beef enchilladas..and they were NOT HOT. So IF YOU are thinking of stopping DO NOT. Turn around and go back to McDonalds or the Busy Bee, but DO NOT GO IN Monterrey Little Mexico.
Overpriced below average food, price gouging drink prices and non existent service.
This little place on South Gordon in Alvin will never get another $ of mine...even though I loved their salsa,...
Read moreThis is the original Monterey House that opened in 1955!! Came in for breakfast. Was very disappointed to find no migas, no menudo, no pozzole, nor egg, pappas, tacino, a big fat NOOO!! Although the place is clean and I was greeted with a smile. Patricia my waitress was pleasant and helpful with my order. I found the menu gaudy and font small and somewhat confusing. I ordered the fajitas. Disappointing they were bland and tough to eat. I chewed through them. Rice & beans not much flavor either. There's no love coming out of that kitchen. No smells of food cooking. All I see are wedos like me cooking! The highlight was the sweet tea, the salsas, and Kassy & Patricia! The only things that were authentic this morning! It's 12:16 am only 12 to 14 people here to eat. Lots of empty booths. Not going to be able to sell enough margaritas to pull this off! B R E A K...
Read moreGood Tex-Mex at an affordable price. I much prefer the salsa and green sauce here than any other place, perfect consistency and taste. Outdoor seating on the deck under the big oak trees is almost always open/being served, we always choose to sit outside. The inside is okay, usually a bit cold and we prefer the atmosphere outside. Service can be a tad bit slower outside sometimes but never a huge hassle for us. Margaritas are okay, come in many flavors. Bottled beers also available as well as a few specialty mixed drinks. We really enjoy the guacamole, taco salad, enchiladas, build your own burritos, Monterrey platter, beef and chicken quesadillas, and there’s some kind of grilled fajita tacos that are really good also but I don’t remember what they’re called. This is our go to-to TexMex place, better than Gringos, IMO....
