As usual, the food is pretty good. Like usual, we get the Omni and it's delicious. A great combo of ingredients, it's cooked perfectly, and that darn olive tapenade is incredible! I was happy we could finally eat there after two previous unsuccessful attempts. Once they had plumbing issues, which was unfortunate but it happens. The next time their payment system was apparently down which means they couldn't even take cash which I still mentally struggle with. I had cash... I even had a variety of bills, I pleaded, please let me buy food. Nope! Ok, moving past that we finally had a successful visit today but a few things were off. One, our server had to leave which is OK but the replacement just wasn't into it or on it. I don't know if he didn't get any tip because she started it or what but he had a poor attitude. I then tried to explain how I forgot which phone number I had my rewards on (we had previously been there a lot before being turned away twice) and surely I had enough rewards for an appetizer. Right? Wrong! He comes back, tells me he found my account but there weren't many points on it. He didn't even bother to check my other phone number, just the first one. That's the issue, I tried to explain, one has a lot of points and the other doesn't. He wasn't hearing it. Ahh, he explained, we switched reward systems but that was "before my time" he said. Ok? And? So my points are just gone now? Why did I give you my phone number if it was for nothing. A very weird experience. I will have to put my olive tapenade desires on the back burner for a bit while they, hopefully, figure things out. Lastly, they sat us under a projector TV and... yeah, don't sit there. That...
Read moreWe’ve been going to 575 Pizzeria in Amarillo for as long as they have been around, which means even when they were known by a different name. I suppose that attests to how good they are, even without writing another word.
But I will anyway, since I’m here, and 575—which refers to the oven temperature—has been good to us at all locations, from Civic Circle and Hillside locations in Amarillo, as well as their newest in Little Elm, a DFW suburb.
On this particular visit, which preceded an evening at the theatre, Youngest Daughter selected The Phoebe, a white pie with olive oil, parmesan, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, fresh basil, and chicken. It is her usual when we stop by.
And I ordered a custom pie, starting with a cauliflower crust slathered in red sauce, adding vegan cheese, red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, and red onion. It’s a great taste sensation!
One of 575’s hallmarks is also a great craft beer selection, and I ordered a couple of pints of the local Pondaseta Fast and the Hazy IPA. While I will down an IPA pretty much any time, I find them to be particularly well-paired with pizza.
When I asked Youngest Daughter her thoughts on her meal, she replied, “Dad…575 never disappoints!”
You can’t ask for a better endorsement than this, and we hope that 575 is around for many years to come, both in Amarillo and on our visits to Oldest Daughter...
Read moreOf all the pizzas I’ve tried in my travels across the U.S. ...even in Chicago, where the bar is famously high; this remains my gold standard. Time after time, others have fallen short in comparison. I’ll admit, taste is always a bit subjective, but for me, this is simply the best.
The staff only add to the experience; on every visit, they’ve been warm, accommodating, and quick to serve without making you feel rushed. Practical touches make it easy to enjoy, too; a large parking lot sits behind the restaurant, and there are pull-up spots for quick orders and pickups. Step inside, and you’re met with a space that’s both clean and inviting, accented with subtle nods to a love of cycling; a detail that speaks to a certain personality and care behind the place.
If you ever find yourself in the Amarillo area craving pizza that rises well above the fast-food tier, this is the spot worth...
