Maria's Cocina Mexicana — Restaurant in Amarillo

The first time I went it was great, the waitress had a great attitude n food was good. I go today again, n we get a waitress that has blonde hair n terrible teeth. We complained about how our stuff wasnt as great as last time n instead of making it better she tells us next time we need to ask for it n get charged extra for it. I big table came in after us and without them asking she brought them load of toasted bread and was laughing around with them? Why the difference? Do we need to know the owner to be treated like other customers or something? Update 9/22/24 tried to give it another chance, but it's just awful, rice was hard reheated I'm assuming, the caldo de res didn't have meat in it, and barbacoa in tacos was crunchy, our torta was cold and the meat was over cooked as well, took over 40mins to get our food. we asked for a less spicy salsa and the waitress said they don't have one that isn't but the first time we visited this restaurant they did. I try to eat and review one Mexican food joint each week. Never been to Maria’s and had to navigate construction and backlot parking. Not pretty on the outside but vibrantly, colorfully appointed on the inside. Casual authentic Mexican cuisine. Today, I ate the best Mexican breakfast I’ve had in Amarillo. I got the migas rancheros with refried beans, potatoes and homemade flour tortillas. The special kicker in this loaded desayuno was the chicharrones tucked into the scrambled eggs, jalapeños and corn tortillas. Chilaquiles were ok lacking flavor if they would use queso fresco instead and some cotija on beans and drizzle some crema on both than they would have been authenticly delicious. Hot salsa was good.
