Seeing what the overall rating is for this place, I'm shocked. Not sure how it isn't at least four start. It is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at as the food is as good as it gets. Is it cheap, no...but you get what you pay for. I don't think I've gotten any other than the filet each time that I've gone which is about 10 times over the years. It is the best filet that I've ever had and I've had plenty of steaks/filets at various highly rated restaurants. Menu choices are really good. Often there is about 5-6 items that I'd like to try on it. I can't comment on the other food but the other patrons that I've gone with to the restaurants that have gotten other dishes and had nothing but good things to say about it. It isn't your once a week place unless you have a lot of disposable cash cause it can be expensive; but, I live in Ambler and think that we are lucky to have a really good restaurant, even if it is expensive, as an option. My wife and I often consider driving in Philly to eat at a Buddakan or Capital Grille but with costs for parking, travel time, and the Philly prices, I think Bridgets is a better option...explains why we've opted for this place as opposed to a Philly restaurant over the past few years and didn't regret it one time. Ambiance, service, and food is great. We've done the early bird, 5-6pm, menu the past few weeks for $33 which includes and app, entrée, and dessert. On top of that we go on Sundays which is bring your own wine. I never thought I was a fan of bread pudding but Bridgets changed my perspective on bread pudding entirely. They usually have a different flavor each week and it's been awesome each time. Had cheesecake once which was awesome and another time had apple pie which was like a mini pie as opposed to a slice. Probably best apple pie I've ever had; so if you go, I recommend getting a dessert. I would think the turn off here is the price so go on Sunday when you can bring your own wine and hit the early bird. Monday, they have the early bird special all day. If you go there on a Friday and polish off two bottles from the menu plus an app, entrée, and dessert and you'll be looking at over $200 with tip. We can eat here on a Sunday before 6pm for less than $100 which includes the two bottles of decent wine we get at the state store on...
Read moreWe showed up without a reservation at 7:30 on a Sunday night. The restaurant was still serving but we were seated in the bar. I was okay with that. Our waitress showed up immediately. We ordered drinks. Within a few minutes, she returned without our drinks - asking for our order. We weren't ready so she left for another minute and returned. I felt very rushed. We ordered so quickly we forgot to order appetizers. I wrote it off to the kitchen closing soon. After 10 minutes a different person brought us bread. A different person delivered our food. We ordered "Bridget's Best" for two. It was several minutes before we were given individual plates. The Filet Mignon looked nice. When I cut it in half it was beautifully cooked. The strip steak didn't look as nice, it was roughly cut. When I cut it in half it was over-cooked. We ate the filet first waiting for our waitress to check on us. She didn't. We waited more. She eventually breezed by our table, looked down at our food, and said, "Is everything... okay good" and kept walking. Then, we decided we might as well eat it. The next time we saw her she brought us the check. Mind you we weren't offered coffee or dessert. I politely told her we had waited for her to check on us. That the strip steak had been considerably overdone. She asked me, "How overdone?" She said she was sorry and left to talk to someone. When she returned she offered us a $25 gift card and told us to ask for her next time and she would make it right. I've had some time to think about this before writing this review. I wonder why she thinks we would risk it again. A $25 gift card for lousy service, an overcooked entree, and a less-than-perfect evening. To top it off it was my birthday and a big one at that. Oh wow! I am completely appalled by the responses from the owner to poor reviews. Please read some of them. His responses are extremely rude rude and off-point. I'm not interested in returning and I guess I can expect a verbal beating from the owner as well. Anyone want a $25 gift card? We won't be giving it another chance. There are other fabulous steakhouses in the area. The photo shows Filet on the left and Strip on the right - both should be...
Read moreMy first time at Bridget's this past Saturday evening was a major disappointment. I never post reviews but I still felt compelled after 3 days of disappointment over this meal. I've heard mixed reviews from trusted foodie friends but thought we would give it a try.
While the food was okay...just okay, the entire experience was lacking. I will start by saying that our waiter Peter was very nice but clearly overwhelmed by the number of patrons he was serving. This in my opinion was not his fault, it is greed and poor planning on the front end if you book a full dining room and don't have the staff to cover it.
Being seating at the enclosed porch might have been charming it if wasn't for the poor acoustics. The lack of any type of sound absorbing material makes for such a loud room that is all glass and wood, you have to shout to communicate with the person sitting next to you. Get some fabric panels or carpet in that room! The half walls are painted black, its such an easy fix... fix it!
The simple task of ordering a drink or the waiter explaining the specials was comical as we had to constantly repeat ourselves to be heard. After placing a drink order, we had to request a bread basket...twice.
A second drink order was 20 minutes of waiting and only after we reminded our waiter that they hadn't yet arrived. Oh and the second round; inconsistent, how do you screw up an old fashioned?
Appetizers arrived, good but not great. The calamari was commendable.
One of the steaks ordered was then ultimately not available. Does it happen; sure but we were told well after the first course was finished and easily 30 minutes after the order was taken. This is unacceptable, YOU'RE A STEAK HOUSE!!! $6.00 was deducted for the inconvenience...uh... thanks? Didn't ask for it but that just feels like a token write off.
Dessert, no thanks, at that point we couldn't wait to get out of there. The cost of this meal ($350++ for a party of 4), in comparison to the quality and service this is absurd. An elevated dining experience this was not and frankly at this price point that is what you expect. Sadly...
