I used to live in ambler, and was there when this place had their opening day a few years ago. I have visited a few times over the last 2 years and after this most recent visit i doubt it is on my list for a repeat experience.
The Good -their beer is pretty good, If you are in the area i would stop by but would not go out of my way to get it.
The bad. I think they use the "limited menu" as an excuse not to have a larger variety of food. There was a total of 5 entrees on the menu, two of which were a burger and fish and chips which i would define as standard and would expect more from the atmosphere and price. No Specials (at least not that the waiter told us about). The menu has been consistently the same every time i have been there and options seemed to have diminished over time. Prices range from 14-21$ for main courses. appetizers are limited in selection as well and have not seen any real change in the offerings.
As for the atmosphere it is an interesting place. I'll leave the waiter that had less than stellar people skills out of this. It is an old house they converted into a restaurant but they should have put some more thought into fixing it up. You can see through the cracks between the floorboards on the 1st floor and the cold air wandering up to numb your feet from the basement while you eat is a constant reminder they are there. If you goto the bathroom on the second floor you can see where they store all their dry goods in a hallway, just another example of the lack of attention to detail. Also they should probably check their electrical lines because the lights constantly flicker (or maybe they have them set up this way on purpose, who knows)
Overall just a disappointing experience, and they have seemed to have gone...
Read moreI’m leaving one star for the friendly waitstaff and one star for the good beer; if you’re only coming to drink and not order food, I’d increase my rating to 4 stars. However, if you’d like to stop in for food, I’d highly recommend you go somewhere else.
Two members of my party of four ordered burgers which were served (the first time) with cold, completely raw centers. The burgers were sent back for the kitchen to remake them, but the two burgers that were served second looked like they were only seared quickly and contained even more raw meat in the middles than the first time. Therefore, when we left, half of our party needed to go somewhere else to actually get lunch after sitting there being hungry for an hour.
Of course the raw burgers were removed from the bill, but the prices on the receipt for the two entrees we paid for differed than the prices posted on the menu. The price difference between the two offset each other so we did not ask for a correction, but I feel like other patrons may be overcharged and might not notice then.
This establishment needs to invest in retraining their waitstaff, using meat thermometers, and synchronizing their posted menu and checkout systems. Unfortunately, this was our first time at Forest & Main, and we will not...
Read moreBeautiful tap room, wonderful bartenders, and exceptional beer. F&M in Ambler looks much smaller from the outside than it actually is inside, so don’t be afraid if you have a sizable group! They’ve got standard seating at the bar, various tables throughout, and some comfy couches and tables all the way in the back. Did I mention the beer yet? You really can’t miss here - throw a dart and hit a beer and chances are you’ll love it. They’ve got a good variety of beer on tap at any given time so you’re likely to find something for everyone. They also make cocktails as well that I’ve yet to try for the simple fact that I love the beer so much. You can also snag food from any of the nearby restaurants (recommend El Limon!) and bring it in to eat while you enjoy a beverage. There’s a lot to do in Ambler, but Forest & Main should be towards the top...
