Sweet Carolina and Ames are known for their comforting food and their condiment metropolis of a caddy! The restaurant has a clean and inviting atmosphere with a mix of more high and less low top tables. The well-stocked bar ensures that you won't be disappointed with your drink selection. And don't worry about slow service, as the staff is prompt and attentive.
Now, let's talk about the star dish at Sweet Carolina - the homemade meatloaf. It's packed with delicious flavors that will make your taste buds do a touchdown dance, bit small serving with 2 sided . And the devil eggs and mashed potatoes and cheese curds? They're so tasty that you'll want to do a victory lap around the restaurant!
But there were a couple of things that caught my attention. The posters displaying the daily specials at the entry had a peeling, "vintage" look that could use some sprucing up. Perhaps hiring a graphic designer or investing in some heavy-duty tape would do the trick. The table top caddy at the restaurant was like a mini-condiment city! It had an array of condiments, including ketchup, mustard, and more. It was a condiment metropolis, complete with sauces, silverware, and small serving plates. Some might call it a "bitcluster," but who am I to judge a condiment extravaganza?
However, I must admit that the caddy was a bit cluttery for my liking. It took up so much space that it could have doubled as a table itself. Not only that, but it had a tendency to block people's faces, turning them into condiment-seeking contortionists. But hey, no biggie! The best part is that customers can move the caddy around themselves. So, if you ever feel like playing a game of "Find the Face" or "Condiment Jenga," this caddy is the perfect accessory!
Despite these minor hiccups, Sweet Carolina and Ames offer a satisfying dining experience. The food is decent, the service is good, and the staff is attentive. So, if you're in the mood for homemade comfort food and don't mind a little poster chaos and food hide-and-seek, this place is for you! Go Cyclones, and...
Read moreWas excited to see what this location would be turned into. The building has been turned into a fantastic space with an upscale vibe but paying respect to the historical aspect of the building, the decor is phenomenal. The food hower was meh, The service was prompt with drinks and staff was doing great, but the food took longer for the main entrees for my fiance and i tonight. our pimento cheese appetizer was great. The Entrees where warm almost cold, and lacking in flavor. I got the Pork Chop with Brussel sprouts and mac & cheese my fiance got the fried shrimp with Brussel sprouts and cucumber salad. She also got additional side of pasta salad. the portion sizes of everything for the value being charged is way overpriced and not everything was flavorful. The only thing that we thought was good where the brussel sprouts and the cucumber salad. The Pork Chop came out fried which wasn't in the description of the food (If i knew that i wouldn't of ordered it. The description of the "Pork Chops 14.99 says Bone in Pork Chops. Served with two sides" i was expecting two pork chops and vs the on 5 ish oz pork chop i received. The Pork Chop wasn't really seasoned and i didn't really eat it, My Fiance didn't eat the Fried Shrimp because of the lack of flavor. The Cucumber salad was great but there was no flavor in the rest of the sides. For the amount of investment they put into the place i was expecting a better experience with food menu that wow factor this place deserves, Its sub par bar food. but i've been to plenty of sports bars that would least expect to be good but ended up being fantastic. Upon receiving the bill it was way higher than expected for what we ate and drank. I could of went to a more expensive restaurant in town and drank more and had bigger portions for the same amount. Such as Aunt Maudes, Corn Bread, The Cafe.. ETC We haven't written this place off yet because there are growing pains with starting a new restaurant. Hopefully it will be better...
Read moreThe place wasn't to my liking. We tried to sit upstairs and waited 20 minutes just to be told that if we are going to order food that we need to sit downstairs. We moved right away, waited another 20 minutes to meet our waiter and get drinks. The worst part was that while we were waiting we had three waiters/waitress acting like they were at a party. Dancing in front of us, playing around, and just flat out immature for a work environment. It was bad enough that our group felt uncomfortable when one of the waitress's shirt came half way up when dancing around. We didn't just have bad service, but the food wasn't very good at all. The chicken ranch bacon melt had raw bacon, the burger meat was sour(enough to make the person in our group throw up 10 minutes after we got home), the fries tasted like they were cooked in dirty oil, the brussel sprouts were burnt, and the chicken fried steak meat was rough and chew, the gravy looked flat out gross like they mixed dirty grease into it. When telling our waiter that we weren't please he walked away like we were joking. We had to grab a different waitress to express how we felt about the food. When trying to check out we waited 10 minutes before we went to the bar to try to check out. They told us we couldn't check out there and then the "kitchen manager" got into a member of our groups face trying to start a fight. It took the waitress that we expressed our problems with to tell him that everything has been taken care of that we just need checked out for the kitchen manager to back up and stop being a jerk to...
