We had a phenomenal dining experience at Phat Cats on Saturday night. Our reservation for the bar was at 6:30 and Adam (their longtime host) greeted us and seated us promptly. It’s a busy and lively atmosphere and all of the tables we passed on our way to the bar were full. Their warm and cozy space recently underwent a major renovation to the bar (also full) and it’s gorgeous. While we looked over the wine and cocktail menu we noticed that everyone seated alongside us at the bar seemed to be a regular; Paul and Christina have built a loyal following and it shows whenever you’re in their restaurant. Ashley was our server and she remembered us from our last visit which was two months prior. She’s excellent and takes her time explaining their evolving dinner specials and answers any questions on their menu. We ordered a half-dozen oysters on the half shell and they came with an awesome frozen mignonette. Oysters were very fresh. For dinner I ordered a special (herb-coated baked haddock with savory crème brûlée, mixed greens from a local farm, and an incredibly well-seasoned marinated tomato salad). The haddock was a generous portion: delicately-flavored and gone in a few bites. Their savory crème brûlée is always a favorite. This is one of the few places where I always ask to see the dessert tray (Christina, the co-owner, makes all of their pastries and desserts in-house) and we ordered a slice of decadent chocolate cake with a perfectly bitter espresso ice cream. While we were finishing our meal, Christina came over to introduce herself and to ask how the meal was. It was one of the best meals we’ve had over the past several months. They have a loyal staff for a reason and I like that you never feel rushed or like they’re trying to move you along to seat another party right after you. Tips from a local: make a reservation; consider one of their dinner specials; order a side of the savory crème brûlée with your meal! Thank you Paul, Christina, and your team for a great dining experience. We will...
Read moreI went from work with a co-worker after 1-1/2 years! Looked forward to returning since it was local and was a small dining space with comfort tasty food!
I had dined there only 3 times prior in 3 years with 2 other friends for dinner.
In past; We had table reservations, service was very good and food specials & drinks wonderful! This was during a very busy holiday season.
This year/month, July, 2024, booked a reservation with co worker same day………. at the bar was great!
We had two drinks both had an appetizer and one dessert. We didn’t feel rushed. Drinks were great!
Steamers smelled really good and co-worker devoured them with no complaints!
I ordered Calamari and batter was tasty. The Cilantro dip sauce and a mild spice sauce was really good! I would go back again but not in a hurry. 🤔
Little things noticed;
*No lemon with Calamari and presentation in small wire basket…eh😕
*No coaster or napkin was placed under drink and had to ask when wet and puddled. Minor issue.
Noticed couples and few other parties did have coasters or napkins under drinks.
*Although Calamari was very tasty and a small basket of them, they were not crispy, batter a bit soft..😕
*Cordial attendance was received from Bar server however, noticed locals and regulars got more customer service and friendly welcoming smiles. An easy customer service fix!
Food is tasty, specials had in past, were fabulous!
Dining space small and cozy, delightful for meeting with friends, however customer service was not as welcome friendly if not a regular.
That’s what I felt.
Entree’s are worth trying for sure!
