First the good, we were at the hotel next door and were taking food to our room. The food was decent and portions were generous. Good food quality earned the 3 stars. I had 3 item combo, 1 shredded beef taco and two sweet pork enchiladas with rice and refried beans. Wife had mango shrimp fajita and we shared fresh guac/salsa and chips. My enchiladas were good with plenty of melted cheese and sauce. The sweet pork was too sweet for me, seemed pretty heavy on the cinnamon ! That said it was tender and plentiful. The beef taco was as well plentiful and tasty, I prefer cabbage (ideally pickled) to lettuce on any taco. The sweetness from the enchiladas bled into the otherwise good refried beans. My wife's mango shrimp were pronounced "good", 9 largish shrimp, sauce flavorful but void of any actual mango pieces (none were promised). The guac was very chunky, tons of chips and salsa, very good. Now the rest, 0 stars. The young girl at the counter taking our order was quite sweet and polite. The training that she had received (likely none) was woefully inadequate. She tried hard and with a very good attitude, but did not know the answer to most questions. Our order took 30+ minutes and the restaurant only had 2-3 tables going at the time. We were charged a $4 "packaging fee" for take out, another misc $1.06 fee for something (can't remember )? We received no cutlery or napkins in the bag . We discovered this when we got back to the room. The extra charges and the lack of attention to the packing of the order is enough to declare that we would not return. oh, we had a free dessert coupon from the hotel next door, we got the fried ice cream and it was the best item we had, nice crust, lots of chocolate and caramel sauces and whipped cream. If you are going, save room. There was a Cafe Rio and a Five guys in the same retail complex, we would choose one of...
Read moreIt's been a while since I have written a review. This place was worth a good review. Chips were fresh, the red salsa has good flavor with little heat. As usual I asked for a "HOT" salsa and the heat was perfect for a Habanero salsa but it was more of reminiscent of something that should come out of a bottle than to be called a salsa. But- it was filled with the right amount of heat and flavor. It is just my opinion that salsa needs heft and is supposed to stick to a chip and not run off of it. I had a Bud Light (perfectly chilled) and ordered the Tacos al Carbon. I was pleasantly surprised. Mexican food can be just that, "FOOD" and not much more. For what is to make seems easy enough but many places can make a mockery of the meal and ruin something simple. The flavors in the beef were there and not in any way over powering. The beans seemed to be made in house and the cheese that was atop them was not too much- in fact it was the right amount. Too many restaurants use cheese to overcome their lack of cooking ability. The rice was mild. That is not to say it was bland but the spices used there were also just right and it was fluffy to boot. There was no need to add salsa to the meal to compensate for a bad dish. Using it on the chips was where the salsa belonged. The staff was young but very on top of things. Service was prompt and with a smile. I cam in towards their closing time after a movie and apologized. No way did the service or food suffer towards the end of the evening. I was pleasantly surprised and will head back to see how their other offerings taste. Very well worth the time for dinner (or any meal). Oh almost forgot....their after dinner candies are pretty tasty too. Not the usual mint/chocolate or spearmint. I grabbed a...
Read moreAll I wanted to do was treat my wife to a nice dinner. She wanted to try this place.. So let's go. But the service was bad from the moment we walked in. And it got worse, not better. We get our chips and salsa 5 minutes before we got some water. I had to ask the host for water. The waitress finally grabs the water from the host, drops off our water and asks us if we're ready to order. No welcome to Cafe Sabor, my name is blah blah blah, just a "are you ready to order"?
My wife asks for a drink menu. She brings us a drink menu, then asks us if we're ready to order. No we aren't. We told her to give us a minute to get our drink order 1st. She comes back, takes our drink order, then asks if we're ready to order again. NO I'M NOT READY TO ORDER YET!!!
Another couple comes in, gets seated, and to my surprise she greats that table with a "are you ready to order"? Well at least it isn't just me, she's rude to everybody.
There was 4 tables in the restaurant, and it took almost 20 minutes to get my drink order. Our drinks came out one minute before the entrees, and she almost spilled my drink on me. I ask for napkins to clean up my drink, and the waitress comes back with sour cream for my wife, but no napkins to clean up the mess she made from spilling my drink on the table.
I only left a tip, because my wife made me after she seen I left a $0.00 tip. You could not pay me $100 to give Cafe Sabor another chance. We should've left once I noticed I didn't get our margaritas within 15 minutes. Or after the 2nd "are you ready to order yet"?
But if you love horrible service, go to Cafe Sabor! By the way, I gave them one...
