I really like the size of the menu and the variety that Firehouse Grill offers. Their portions are typically very impressive, and tonight was no exception for everything we had except for the amount shrimp in my fajitas. There were only 10 relatively small shrimp in the skillet that probably had 2+ bell peppers and an entire onion in it. The dish came with a generous side plate of shredded cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, salsa, sour cream, and 4 tortillas. I was able to construct 2 tacos with 4 shrimp in each one, but only had a couple left over with 2 more tortillas and piles of everything else.
I pointed out to our server, Chloe, that this aspect of my meal was underwhelming. She indicated that ingredients are measured, but was also in agreement that it didn't seem acceptable and would bring the complaint to a manager's attention for me. A few minutes later, Chloe emerged with a small cup of additional grilled shrimp to round out my dinner. She was the hero of the day, and I didn't have to escalate the issue. She was wonderful throughout our meal and deserves immense praise for her service!
I sincerely hope that the initial number of shrimp that I received with the fajitas was an oversight. If that's the current norm, it needs to be re-evaluated immediately. There's no reason that someone can't expect to have 3 or 4 shrimp in each taco with the amount of other ingredients that come with the fajitas. On a positive note, they were great...and Chloe made the experience...
Read moreMy wife and I were visiting from Utah this past weekend and were looking for a dinner spot, and decided to give Firehouse Grill a try after looking at the menu. If only we knew then what we know now.
My wife ordered the Monterey Chicken, and if it was any drier, it would have qualified as jerky. She also said the mashed potatoes and "country gravy" tasted off, and after she had me try a bit, I definitely agree. She tried to make do with what she had, as she didn't want to complain, but after a bit longer, it was clear that the food was inedible. She mentioned it to the waitress, and first, she all but yelled at my wife, saying "Why didn't you say something earlier? I could've fixed it!" Then, she took the plate away and gave us the cold shoulder the rest of the time we were there, not saying another single word to us. A pretty rotten attitude, if you ask me. It's not like we were blaming her, and we didn't say anything to deserve that treatment. They did comp us for her meal, so that was good of them. We just wish it hadn't come to that.
My BBQ Bacon Bleu burger was alright, but I should've gone with a different sauce, since I didn't care for their BBQ sauce. Also, their "beer-battered" fries just tasted like regular fries, only slightly crispier.
It's a pretty sad state of affairs when, after leaving the restaurant and heading back towards our hotel, we reflected on how fast food would've been a better option...and...
Read moreSadly quite unimpressed with Firehouse. I always prefer to support local places rather than chains, and seeing so many high reviews, I was excited! The place is very nice, clean, everyone is friendly, and service was not bad. However, the food was not great…
The food was what was lacking the most; which is the most important part of a restaurant.. I got the shrimp quesadilla. As there were so many assuring reviews that they had “something for everyone”/all kinds of food — and did it all well — I thought it would be safe to try something not overtly “American” in this small rural town…definitely should’ve stuck with a burger or sometbing simple. The quesadilla had almost no flavor, it was overcooked — tough shrimp, tough cheese, dry tortilla — and not even hot. The sour cream that came with it had more flavor. I will give some points back for the pico and the salsa; whether they were homemade or store-bought, they were the highlights of the meal, and were honestly better than most pico and salsa I’ve had at Mexican restaurants — even in Mexican locations.
It’s pretty expensive, too. The most egregiously overpriced things I noticed were the appetizers. $7 for chips and salsa? $9 for chips and queso? $2 per wing???? How can you charge $2 per wing? You should be ashamed for that.
Overall, not a horrible place or experience by any means, but I wasn’t impressed and likely wouldn’t return except to maybe watch sports and...
