We ordered beef pad Thai, orange chicken, fried rice, and steamed dumplings as an appetizer. The orange chicken was crispy though one-dimensional in flavor- a cloying slurry of syrup (tasting mostly like honey- did we order the right dish?) bearing a vague orange flavor and lacking in zest- an ersatz version of Panda Express which is an albeit sad comparison to be making. The steamed dumpling were very average; they came on foil and were pooled in the liquids in which they were steamed. These dumplings were topped with fried garlic which was exciting until after a couple of bites. Because the fried garlic was saturated in oil and perhaps left too long beside the dumplings as they let off residual moisture, the garlic bits were no longer crispy and so stuck to my molars like gum to a sidewalk when they were chewed. The fried rice (ordered in addition to the orange chicken which didn’t come with any rice) was very bare and seemingly consisted only of fried egg remnants. All this being said, the food component of my meal was redeemed by the pad Thai. It was sauced perfectly and balanced in flavor- sweet, sour, salty and umami. However, there were a couple pieces of beef that were improperly trimmed with tough/sinewy pieces to chew and I wish there’d been lime on the side for some optional additional acidity.
Service could have been more prompt and polite. Plagued by the paradox of choice when presented a menu, I often make poor restaurant servers wait a few precious moments on me to make a decision (for which I’m very grateful and try to generously monetarily return in favor) However, I felt that we had a superfluous amount of time to review our options before being visited by staff (place was only half full). We were eventually served by a young waitress who had a standoffish attitude and seemed more attentive to things aside from our table while also being at our table… She assumed that we only wanted water. I would have ordered a Thai tea if only water weren’t posited as she walked away from our table after taking our entree orders. Our dishes were also given to the wrong individuals which may’ve been attributable to her indiscretion and general lack of regard for us.
I try to be kind and patient with restaurant staff having worked in their place, but I found myself irked here when politeness/attentiveness was only shown when the bill was presented or when our waitress served other particular patrons.
Overall, this restaurant provides a decent lens into Asian food for Idahoans, however it wouldn’t be my recommendation for passersby with options back home...
Read moreCan't even begin to express the disappointment with this restaurant. We were there once to eat in the restaurant, it was excellent, the service was great, portions were appropriate and price was right. We went there a second time the portions were good it was a little overcooked, but we were satisfied enough. We go there Saturday because of the construction downtown we decided to go here instead of drive to Yummy House. Ordered cashew chicken, more like cashew chicken pieces and the vegetables weren't many and what was there was soggy and cooked to death. That was almost $13. Ordered the peppered steak entree, almost $13. Same thing, filled with water, the steak was overcooked and pale with no flavor. We paid for extra steak and it had almost nothing, and actually had around half the amount of meat as my cashew chicken did. My husband asked for a level two on spiciness for me and a level 3 for him , and his nose was running while eating it. My lips were burning on a level two ? With both meals the only flavor was the heat you tasted nothing else it was just watery mush with Bland rubbery chicken and rubbery steak. Both containers had very poor portions. We were so hungry afterwards and we went somewhere else to get more food. We don't eat rice, but the rice containers, there were two one of them was half full the other was a third full not packed like it normally would be. Neither entree container was more than maybe a third full and their little small black containers, which are fine when they're full like they are at normal places. So that was $26, then I always get the Satay chicken, I should have checked the price because it's now $10 for four very thin overcooked skewers of chicken. They put it in the foil and into a styrofoam container, unfortunately they put it in upside down in the container so all of the juice was poured all over and then poured out of the styrofoam container because the corner of it was melted so everything was pouring out, peanut sauce leaked and all of the cucumber juice also spilled out of its container. We were just disgusted with the food we received for a $40 bill. We ate it right in our car in the parking lot because we didn't want it to get cold and didn't want to heat it up. We had an exhausting day. The price, quality, portion size, none of it was worth a $40 tab. Don't even waste your time with this place, if that's what they're pumping out when it's game on on Saturday night, then the rest of the nights...
Read moreThe food was good. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was extremely poor.
We arrived at 6:10 pm and were seated instantly. After about 15 minutes we placed our orders. We then asked for water a few more times while we waited (very difficult to do because the waitress frequently ignored us, we met glances with a few other tables that gave us sympathetic nods because they were receiving the same treatment). We received the water after 7 15pm (those aren't typos, it had been over one hour). We received half of our order at 7:45 and waited another 10 minutes for silverware after we asked for it because they did not provide us with any. By this time we had asked for the remainder to-go because my toddler was crying having waited for over an hour and a half and the portion that made it to our table was too spicy and his order was still waiting. 8:15 pm rolled around, and so 2 hours after receiving our complete order, we paid the bill and left. I never did get the soda I asked for, but at least we got the water... The food was good, so I can't give one star but I won't be returning.
Update: I originally gave 2 stars because despite the service, the food was good. My wife has been up all night vomiting with food poisoning, so it officially marks the worst dining experience...
