We went to Daves while on a trip from Florida, to look at a house to buy. We ended up getting lunch here. Everything was so very good, and the service was also great! We got the all-you-can-eat catfish, which was so good. It did take a while to get our food, initially, and also the re-order. When you reorder, they send you out one smallish fillet, and, I think maybe 2 would be better, but not a real issue. Overall, we were all very very happy, and if our house deal works out, we'll be regulars! *UPDATE, 2023â We have been back several times since that first review, and have not been too happy any of our return visits. The food just doesnât seem as good as it was that first time. And man, doesnât everyone know that catfish is best coated in cornmeal! Never a flour based batter! The service was insanely slow, and indifferent. Last straw: My daughter brought her dad here for his birthday, and he ordered the âall you can eatâ catfish. They were there forever, and said the food took a long time to come to the table, and and as soon as the first small plate of fish was brought, be asked to go ahead and order another piece of fish. The server said ok, and the wait to get the next order took over 25 minutes. The whole visit took way longer than expected, and my daughter had to leave to go to an appointment. They were just preparing to get up and get the check, when the server appeared with the second order of fish. My husband asked if he could get a to go box, under the circumstances, and was told bluntly âno, you canât order and take it to goâ. He said, âwell, we have to leave, so I guess itâs just wasted!â The server was annoyed by this, and my husband never complains about anything! He always just goes with the flow. But after that episode, he said we wonât...
Read moreI was born in Andalusia but have lived in San Diego for the past 45 years or so. Yesterday was my Auntie Hallen's 90th birthday so my daughter & I made the trip in order to be here for the occasion. The highlight of the visit so far has been our meal last night at David's Catfish House! Auntie raves about this establishment so I was extremely delighted to discover that the food, service and ambiance lives up to the hype. The service by our attendant Jerica (probably misspelled đ) was exemplary and the personal attention given by the owner (Heenan I believe) to my Auntie, as well as to the rest of our dining party was above and beyond. The staff, as well as a few customers displayed that "Southern Hospitality" that I grew up experiencing while living here up until joining the Navy in 1977. It was very refreshing and reassuring to see that some of the qualities that I so value are still being proudly displayed. As I previously stated, this is my Auntie's favorite spot and now, anytime I'm in town, it will be mine. A very big thank you to everyone involved in making this a...
Read moreI dont come home often and when i do i want to be taken care of but not this trip.. i was very disappointed.. not the service im use to.. the food was luke warm to say the least.. Ordered at the window and was asked to circle around at least twice. Was told that it was going to take 20 more minutes to get our food. Let me say that we had already been in line for at least 30 minutes. We ordered 2 fish and shrimp 1 fried the other grilled. By this time asked why and was told it was gonna take that much more time for the grilled fish. Asked to speak with Bill and he walked to the window but never said a word, which was disappointing. When we got home there wasn't anything but butter for the sweet potatoe. Brown sugar (i guess that was the missing item) was absent. I can say the black lady in the window was really nice and polite. We are in a pandemic and masks should be required to be worn properly, but not here by everyone..hope...
