Our Overall Grade = D+
We use to love this place :( It use to have the greatest food. Sadly, this has changed. We went there a few day's ago with our family for our son's birthday. The are in the process of remodeling and changing the name of the restaurant ( I asked on the way out ). Our server was awesome but the food blahh. We would come here because it was always consistently good. This time it was bland and pretty nasty. I had fish tacos. I took one bite out of the taco and spit it out. The taco shell was fried in what tasted like oil that has not been changed in 5 years. It was so awful. I ended up using my wife's tortilla with the rest. The fish was ok but it tasted old. It tasted like it was cooked a week ago and reheated. Not very tasty. My beans were oily and had a funny bitter after taste. Not sure what it was from but was not good at all. It was my sons birthday so they sang him a song that was fun and brought him out a cake loaded with whip cream. He didn't like the cake. I tried it and it tasted freezer burnt, like it has been in the freezer for 5 years. It was bitter and had an awful after taste. It was free but don't want free if its disgusting.
It looks like it will be pretty cool with the paintings they are putting on the wall. They tore out all the dividing walls, painted it a dark blue and currently adding graffiti murals.
They must be under new ownership because the quality is 1/10th of what it use to be. Probably wont go back after that experience.

Read moreRancheros was recommended by a friend, so we thought we'd try it. We were there on a Sunday afternoon so it was not crowded at all. Very pleasant day so we are outdoors on the spacious patio. They make a pretty good daiquiri, but on the day we ordered there was no whipped cream. It was not missed. They have some good, standard Mexican beers, as well as Coke products. The menus are beautiful to look at, and I only mention that because when the food came out it looked exactly like the pictures. You expect the pictures in a menu to make you want the food, but this was uncanny. Great presentation on the food. I ordered the Tamales Mexicanos, three pork tamales served on the corn husks and topped with pico, lettuce, sour cream, and crumbled white cheese. I think a Mexican restaurant should be judged by it's tamales. These were delicious. They could have been a tad more spicy for my taste, but the pastry was dense and the pork was tender and only slightly chewy. The topping was a great compliment overall and made a great presentation. My wife had the chicken quesadillas from the appetizer menu, and they were, in her words, exactly what a quesadilla should be--thin, slightly crispy, and seasoned just right. Each quarter had a small dollop of sour cream.
If everything comes out looking like it did on that menu, I will definitely go back and try other items. This was a quick trip, but I'd like to go back and take my time with some of the authentic Mexican entries and dinner cold beers. That is something to...

Went with my brother.
Chips and salsa hit the table immediately. Chips are still warm. Lightly salted. The salsa is good but not remarkable. Some mild heat - maybe not as hot as Chuys if you're familiar. Went through a few servings of salsa and two baskets of chips before mains arrived. Server was on top of this - never actually ran out of anything.
Basic house margarita is well-executed. Comes in 16 and 22 oz sizes.
There's a decent selection of mainstream American and Mexican beers on tap and in bottles. Both Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial on tap.
Extensive menu. Lots of stuff looks good. The typical, expected things are there: burritos, enchiladas, tacos, in pretty much every combination possible. Also steak meals, chicken meals, a few specialty dishes, and a seafood section, too. It's like eight or ten pages of menu, with one page for drinks.
I had "the favorite" (La Favorita) - a burrito and an enchilada topped with cheese sauce, diced onion, and cilantro on top, with rice and black beans in the side. The burrito and enchilada are generously filled with meat.
My brother, on advice from the server, got the Street Tacos. Three decent sized combo steak/chorizo soft shell tacos, again generously filled with meat, with some onions and cilantro on top and a taco sauce for dipping in the side. The chorizo brings a little mild heat here, too.
Will definitely be spending...
