If I could give 0 stars for the experience I had this morning I would. I am (not after my experience today) a regular at Mr. Rivers Breakfast Joint. I come in every Saturday and always order the same thing. 2 pancakes and scrambled eggs. I'm a huge pancake fan, and usually love their pancakes. They're thick, fluffy, taste amazing, and they give you real syrup (huge plus for me; I'm from Canada and am not a fan of the "fake" syrup). The staff (most of them) are super kind, friendly, and take really great care of you. I can honestly not say anything bad about the hostesses and wait staff, they're terrific. The manager however, is an entirely different story. A very, very unprofessional individual who does not treat customers with respect. I am a very reasonable individual and have worked in the restaurant industry for many years myself. I know it can be hectic and stressful, but that is not an excuse for unprofessional and rude behavior. Getting to the point of this 1 star review. I go in this morning, everything is fantastic, get my coffee, my server is excellent, I put in my order, and when they bring it out it was very, very disappointing. The pancakes were cracked and crumbling, not the normal size that they usually are, my boyfriend (who also ordered buttermilk pancakes had 1 that was still undercooked in the middle), and they just were not the typical standard that is expected. I politely ask my server if I can return my order and she says sure, no problem. Not even 1 minute later the manager comes back with my plate, sets it down on the table, and tells me that the owner refuses to remake my food, that if I want it remade that I have to pay for that plate plus the new plate of pancakes, and that there is nothing wrong with the order, so I should just eat them... I firmly tell her that the food is unacceptable and pointed to another table who's food had come out 5 minutes prior (they also had pancakes) to show her that the pancakes were very inconsistent. She then says well this isn't my fault or the servers, and I reply saying that I have experience in the food service industry and that I know it is not the fault of her or the server (who is excellent), but that of the kitchen, and all I am asking is for my food to be corrected. She pretty much tells me that that is not going to happen, so I ask if I can speak with the owner about the situation (who apparently is in the back on the line cooking). The manager leaves and comes back a few minutes later with a receipt paper and pen. She tells me that the owner will not come out and speak with me and to leave my information so they can call me later. At this point I am pretty upset, so I write my information on the receipt paper and storm out. My boyfriend pays for a few of the food items that were ordered, and we leave. This happened around 10:00AM this morning, it is now after 3:00PM this afternoon and still no phone call. If this business treats its regulars like this, then I feel sorry if it's your first or second time going in. I have never ever had an experience like this trying to return food, and am shocked and appalled that this was their reaction and their manner of handling the situation. Needless to say, I need to find a new joint to get pancakes. Any...
Read moreSo, let me start by saying my wife and I are not picky and normally eat our food even if we aren’t satisfied with it. But today while traveling, we decided to try Mr. Rivers. We ordered the fried dough, and both of us ordered the eggs Benedict. When our food arrived, the poached eggs were overdone(very firm), and tasted like pure vinegar. We’ve ordered this dish at many places, and have made it at home enough to know how it should be. We both only took one bite out of dishes, and waited for our waitress to come back. We told her our concerns, and she took our plates and said she would check on it. When she came back, her explanation was a new person in the kitchen, and she should have checked better. We told her we would just like our check and leave, we didn’t have time to wait for another order. She left and came back with a check that still had both orders of Eggs Benedict on it. We told her we’re not paying for what we didn’t even eat. She left, and came back and angrily gave us a check for the one coffee and the fried dough we did eat. ( The fried dough by the way is just hush puppies with cinnamon and sugar on it). We payed and left, still tipping her. Again, I normally don’t do this and leave reviews, but I’m sorry, I refuse to just let this slide. Restaurants have become complacent post pandemic and I’m tired of...
Read moreDon’t let the name fool you, this is a “farm to table” establishment. It’s the kind of place where you will pay more and get less (in quantity and variety), but that should be because of higher quality. That method works well when the food is good, but when it is not, it becomes a very bad experience. I ordered the chicken biscuit breakfast for myself, which comes with a biscuit, chicken patties on that biscuit, gravy, and breakfast potatoes. I requested no gravy. The biscuit itself was pretty good, but both the chicken and the potatoes were awful. They were severely overcooked. The chicken tasted burnt and was discolored from how overcooked it was. It looked more like a fast foot “breakfast steak” with how shrunken and dark it was. The potatoes were overcooked so hard that I had trouble getting my fork into some of them as well as tasting burnt. When I asked others who also had the potatoes, they also said the same, so it was not just my order. The service was reasonably good, but there were some points where we had to wait longer than I would expect for a higher class establishment. My simple rule is that my drink shouldn’t be empty for any period of...
