My husband and I tried Maki this evening and I must admit, I would never leave a bad review if the food was good. We ordered the CHARLESTON roll and the shrimp was chewy, not fresh, and tasted like it was fresh out is the freezer. The rice was cold, and tasted like it was refrigerated to keep up with orders. The waitress was ditsy and forgot half our order. I did not eat my rolls and the Mgr. Came and committed to ensuring we would return. She credited our bill, for my rolls and then the Waitress brought the bill and charged me for the roll. Having children that work in the restaurant industry, I would never not leave a tip because I know how hard they have to work for their money . However when I addressed what the manager had committed the waitress acted like she did not even care . She simply left the bill, and I paid the bill scratching her tip. I will never return to this restaurant as I believe it is overrated and with the investments that Downtown ANDERSON is making service, commitment to excellence , presentation , and deliciousness is what Anyone would expect. From here on out I will eat sushi at the mall at Mursaki or I will go to downtown Greenville to eat at Tsunami !! If I want to invest in atmosphere, I will eat at Nami On the lake!! What a waste of $$$!! The food sucks, the waitstaff is terrible, and you can get better at Publix in the refrigerated sushi section! Don’t...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to Maki for several years since moving to Belton and in the beginning it was great . Service was good , the staff was very friendly and a few waiters would remember us (Emily,Robin ) and greet us even if we couldn’t get one of their tables . They remembered our drink choices and usually part of our order . Lately it just seems the food is subpar and the wait staff aren’t very friendly at all . Yesterday was the worst for me . I got a spider roll and Charleston roll and tuna tataki for an appetizer. The tuna tasted like it had been sitting in the cooler unwrapped and my rolls were terrible. My husband had 3 rolls and he said they were good and his beef tataki was good as usual . I’m going to attach a picture of my rolls (I ate them thank goodness for eel sauce and wasabi) I don’t eat seaweed so they use another wrap I’m assuming rice paper . My rolls have never come out looking like this before but the service and food quantity have definitely been going down hill over the past year or more . The sushi chef should definitely been ashamed of the quality he let his waiter serve and if I would have been the waiter I would have not served them to my customer. It seems they were not taking pride in the job at all . We will not be returning to Maki . I encourage anyone that reads this review to take the short ride into Greenville for several great sushi restaurants to...
Read moreWe’ve eaten here about every two weeks for a LONG time. The servers have been great, and most lunches we have wonderful experience.
Today we ordered a small Saki. Half way through the decanter I noticed something in the bottom of saki.
After pulling on it with chopsticks and shaking it, I dumped/pulled out a full used paper towel with old food in it.
The server’s shocked reaction confirmed that it wasn’t supposed to be there. She offered to take it off our bill.
Can’t think of words that fully express the experience. Revolting, disgusting, disturbing aren’t quite capturing the experience of drinking saki flavored with a used napkin & old food.
The biggest issue is the restaurant uses linen towels table-side. So, the paper towels were either from the bathroom or kitchen. Or worse, brought in from outside the business.
Bathroom? Terrible. Just terrible.
Kitchen? Horrible. Cleaning fluids? Trash?
Brought in? Grotesque!
It’s not just a hair, or unfortunately spoiled food. It’s a used towel and old food.
In a sushi restaurant, where they serve uncooked/raw food, shouldn’t their cleanliness standards be above the norm?
I’ve eaten at side of the road 3rd world walk-ups and weathered all kinds of military sort-of-food in a lot of circumstances, and this...
