The BEST TASTING meats. My husband got an al pastor burrito and I got a barbacoa taco and a pork chile verde taco. I asked for the hot sauce on the side, and I’m so glad I did because it was DELICIOUS on its own. Very spicy and an amazing flavor that felt maybe like habanero but I’m not sure. We each devoured our food and barely talked the first few bites because we were enjoying it so much. Every freakin bite, so good. A had a bit of my husband’s al pastor and it was a smoky flavor I’d never had before.
We also got chips and queso and at first the queso seemed too runny, but halfway through the meal it got harder and stuck to the chips better. Adding in the traditional Mexican cervezas made the whole experience feel like we were visiting Tijuana again only, honestly, Amigos’ food was better!
The TV had running billboard-style advertisements for gun ranges, pickleball courts, and roofing companies, so that was odd to look at. My husband’s vantage point was Mexican sports. They get a B for atmosphere but there was still pleasant traditional Mexican music playing so overall it was enjoyable.
Many people were coming in for takeout and also dining in. It seemed like this was a spot for locals to frequent. The price was reasonable for all the food we got and for how...
Read moreI am editing this review from one I did over 2 years ago (during COVID.) Paid a trip to Amigos in Ankeny on this past Saturday and walked in to a nearly packed house. Sad, but during COVID, they of course had to make sure customers were practicing social distancing guidelines. I was SO afraid a neat little place like this wouldn't make it. But, now there are several places to sit inside and enjoy your meal, but we chose to order and take it home. I had the Pork Chili Verde Burrito, with sides of chips, salsa and Guacamole. (You'll pay a small price for the sides.) My wife got the Fajita Steak Burrito, with same sides. You have the opportunity to load up your Burrito with extras, such as black beans, lettuce, sour cream, etc., and I have them put pretty much everything on mine.
The Burrito was still warm (as were the chips) when we got home, and we each had about 1/3 of a Burrito left for a snack.
Amigos, you people continue to satisfy, and I wish ya well...
Read moreAmigo's Mexican Grill not only serves fresh food with an authentically delicious taste but has stellar customer service. My family and I came in yesterday a half hour before closing; we were not rushed or left feeling unwelcome just before closing but were served food that was fresh from a clean service area by friendly staff who welcomed us to stay and eat to enjoy our delicious meal. Needless to say I was more than impressed with my first visit and happy with my Grandson and Daughter's high recommendation and invite to dine there. Hope to enjoy this exceptional experience again and I would highly recommend this resturant, which by the way, also has vegan options...
