Jakes — Restaurant in Ankeny

The only reason I am giving it a one star us because 0 isnt an option. 2 nights ago, JAY LOU (SP?) THE BARTENDER, possibly barback, immeadiately after witnessing my brother walk in, makes a comment about my brother being gay. Apparently, he looked like my mother...????. I quickly ask him to fix this, by apologizing, and he starts arguing with me. At which point i start yelling at him and he acts like hes going to jump over the bar and fight me, to the extent in which the other bartender had to restrain him. the manager attempted to comfort me by telling me that this particular employee is alot like donald trump, says what is on his mind. I ask for the owners name and phone number repeatedly, and am refused. I will never again be a patron of jakes. I was only there for 30 to 45 minutes.... planned on spending alot more money, honestly. I was furious and incredibly disappointed. I told all my friends and spent my money...

My boyfriend and I had barely ordered our first drink before the bartender started being rude. My boyfriend asked him if they did anything for birthdays and the bartender very rudely snapped back that if we could celebrate everyone's birthday his was in August. I'm sorry but as a person having worked in the service industry and sales I have to say a simple, "No. We cannot give you a shot for your birthday" would have worked fine. Terrible service. Terrible place. We immediately felt unwelcome. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. We are people that can throw down a few and ALWAYS tip well. Clean bar, but the bartender had a bad attitude. Rude to me but acted really cute with my husband when she thought I wasn't watching. If she was nice to me too I would have takin it as she's a friendly girl but that wasn't the case. Such bad business to be mean to females she could make double the tips but maybe it's not about tips for her maybe she's searching for her perfect someone. Best of luck to her, we won't be back ever .... And I'll speak of this experience whenever it's brought up. Sucks cuz I really support...
