Ankeny Cafe — Restaurant in Ankeny

Thank you Dean and Brandy for opening at 6 am. I'm not always there but when I am, I'm waiting from 5:15 or 5:30 am for Dean to get the grill fired up, do his walk around, flip on the back lights, then grab the remotes to turn on the TV's, unlock the doors, turn on the open sign and a few more lights. By the time I walk through the door; Brandy has my glass of water waiting, Dean is already making my breakfast. You would think I'm here a lot. Well maybe, about once month. It's probably because I sit is the same spot and im usually the first one through the door. When you are here say "Hi" to everyone. Tom is usually there along with Bruce and Sarge sitting around doing the normal talking to all that want to talk. Not a requirement. The only requirement is an appetite. So thank you for being the only breakfast option open at 6am thats not fast food, but family food.

My father and I go to breakfast every week, and when we started looking for a place that we could consistently go to, we didnt know about the Ankeny Diner. We soon found it after running out of too many places and it was amazing! Amazing food, awesome staff, and both of us are able to eat a filling breakfast for about $7 each. We've been coming here (almost) every week for about 2 years now and they had our "regulars" memorized in about 3 weeks. Every week I get the pancake combo with scrambled eggs and bacon. The pancakes are some of the best around, the eggs are really good. Only 1 spot I think they can improve is the bacon. It tends to be a little thin and crunchy, but thats not too big of a deal. Amazing local diner ran by a great family. The new owners are working so hard to preserve the family vibe that Dean and Brandi served all of these years and are doing a great job. Heidi, her mom and daughters have really hit the ground running. I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy! My breakfast date really enjoyed their breakfast as well. Special shout out to the customers that let me take their photos at the stools 😊. I am looking forward to coming back...
