$3.75 for a 12 oz black coffee from a carafe?
I'm not sold. It's easily the most expensive non-pour-over brewed coffee I've had in Washtenaw County. You should be way more upfront about why what you're serving is special. Like, $2 of that better have gone to a farmer in Ethiopia.
It tastes fine, but not $0.33 an ounce fine.
Edit: First, I said your coffee tasted fine. The negatives in my review were about price and your business's story telling. Maybe if you, oh, I dunno, had prices on your menu I wouldn't have been so put off. I'm giving you a customer perspective.
That said, I literally have a spreadsheet of coffee prices in Ann Arbor. I'd share it with you, but I'm not running your coffee business for you. Here's one piece of data: the next highest price I've paid for a cup of drip coffee is $3.50 for a 20oz at Ann Arbor Roasting Company. Are you telling me that every high quality coffee shop in A2 isn't making money selling coffee? I'll even give the benefit of the doubt that black coffee is a loss leader. But then you are leading with the lowest loss I've seen around.
Your business is failing at telling the story of your coffee... even on your website. That story is part of being "third wave" lol. If you aren't making money on coffee maybe you should move your business somewhere with lower rent or chose a different business model.
As it stands, I'd say you're a just profiteer of the...
Read moreBlack Diesel is fantastic. It's in a weird little strip mall location previously occupied by first a Caribou Coffee, and later a Peet's. Here's hoping this shop sticks, because they really have something special this time. First of all, all of the baristas are incredibly kind, and go out of their way in regards to service as well as explaining details about the origins and brewing of their coffees, which brings me to the other great thing about this cafe… the coffee! This place serves up the best coffee you will find in Ann Arbor, right up there with a certain, very small shop downtown. They obviously spend time curating their single origins, and they are very meticulous and careful about brewing here. Don't get me wrong, the local roaster shops in Ann Arbor are great, but here, the consistency and quality is at another level. I've never gotten a bad pour-over here. They serve their drinks in unique ways that I think really takes the experience over the top. It's all really well-thought-out. My only complaints are a (somewhat) confusing menu and a couple of the tables are wobbly, but they're more than made up for by other seating options. The combination of friendly staff, delicious coffee, and cool decor makes this place my favorite spot for coffee in town, and I don't take that...
Read morePoor attitude and service. Expensive capuccino and pastries. Poor and small selection on pastries. No soft butter croissant except the Zingerman's with hard shell that breaks apart on the table, embarassing us. Owner doesn't care about customers' wish for pastry selections. Staff are selectively nice. Some greet, some don't. Owner replied they have a nice pastry selection and they listen to customers. Sadly, that's patently false. Good service is ALWAYS a hit or miss. Just today (09/15/2017) Katie did not acknowledge me and was too busy playing with her tablet instead. She refused to turn up the music's volume and said twice it's on. Then she ignored me AGAIN and kept playing with her tablet. Unbelievable. I left without making a purchase. Not catering to professionals and mature customers. I called the owner's cell phone, but he doesn't care to pick up although I announce my name on his announcer. Unfortunate. Not a good...
