One of Ann Arbor's oldest continually running locales and underappreciated gem. I would definitely contact them for reservations if you're with a large group, but otherwise this is a truly peaceful charming space. People of all ages and backgrounds are warmly welcomed, just read the signs, follow their instructions for how to order and pick up your food and beverages and lean in to the experience. My folks have been coming here since the late 70s, early 80s, and we are so glad that this gem is still around. My secret tip? Don't pass on the food - the prices are super affordable and the portions are huge. Plus the food good.

I loved the plentiful outdoor seating. There is 1 coed bathroom but I loved they have a "safe word" published in the bathroom in case you are run into an uncomfortable situation. We ordered a large sangria and it was delicious and perfectly prepared. You get a small mason jar with a lemon slice in the bottom. Apparently there are other drinks bit why? We ordered artichoke spinach dip which was delicious but I wished the serving was larger. Parking might be an issue if school is in session but I am guessing that students are walking there. They have a large menu and other items I saw coming out looked equally delicious.

What a cool spot- Lived in AA for nearly three years and only discovered this spot after moving away and revisiting. It’s super cool. The courtyard at the back is like something out of a small New England town, maybe even Europe. The system of ordering and having your order called out on a loud speaker was pretty unique, and the overall ambiance was incredibly lively. This spot had a bit of that pre-modernized authentic Ann Arbor feel, before all the chains and big businesses took over. The food was decent too and drinks were perfectly crisp. Highly recommmend a visit.

Absolutely the best, old style "Italian subs" (larger) and "Italian sandwiches" (regular sized) in A2, on fresh, crusty, heated Italian bread. The "Sub" size could be shared between two people, or eaten for two separate meals, because it's stuffed high with yummy meat, cheese, shredded cabbage & red onions, covered by an excellent Italian herb (oily) dressing.

Yep, several napkins are necessary to eat your "Italian", served in a paper-lined, 1950's diner style, plastic basket.

Honestly, in 50+ years, it's the ONLY thing that I've EVER ordered. It's a "must go eat at" or pickup/To Go spot, every time I'm in town, except for winter time & annual "Art Fair week". They might be closed during some/all of the holiday week in December, once the students are gone. Double check for their hours.

Several other types of Italian food, multiple pizza options, and select Vegetarian items are available on the menu too.

Traffic sucks anywhere around downtown, Main St. or State St., S. + N. University, and surrounding areas, which are ALL closed off during annual Art Fair week. This occurs the 3rd Thursday-Saturday of every July, but set up starts at least a day ahead of that. Just don't attempt to park in the area.

I had an excellent experience my first time there ! I went with my mom as a late mother's day treat, and I'm currently on crutches due to a knee injury for context.

First, we walked in and were immediately greeted by someone who may have been the owner? Or, a very good manager. He had a dry-but-funny sense of humor, was super helpful in explaining how the restaurant worked typically, and sent us to the counter to order.

The person at the counter was extraordinary! He was a great conversationalist, had excellent customer service skills, and clearly put a lot of care into his job. I really wish I was better at remembering names, but he was incredibly kind and helpful.

I got the sangria to share with my mom, and I ordered a roast beef sandwich. Pretty sure my mom ordered an egg plant sandwich of some sort, I know she loved it.

But the thing that really stuck out to me - this restaurant came across as more self-serve, but seeing as I was on crutches, the same person who had taken our order brought our food out to us outside. I thought that was incredibly kind of him, and I hope he knows how grateful we are.

The food was amazing - normally I'm a very picky eater, but the sandwich was fantastic, and the Sangria was probably the best Sangria I've ever had. I ended up going back for an order of Spinach and Artichoke dip, which I was also impressed with. Another person took my order for the spinach dip, also excellent service skills, and my food was brought out to me again.

TL;DR - Excellent restaurant, excellent food, excellent service. I would recommend this restaurant...

We end up here from time to time, mostly because of the outdoor seating in back. Each time we leave we feel a little meh.

My favorite part about Dominick's is indeed that outdoor seating. It's a large open area--some of it covered, some of it not, with a fountain and some landscaping. It's very pleasant, and you feel both in-the-middle-of-it but also very relaxed and removed. I love that there are no TVs here. You just hang out!

The food is less exciting. The pizza doesn't taste like much and costs a fair amount. The salad is nice but small for the price. The sangria, so says my memory, is nice. But it's just sangria, and it costs a lot. The constant buzz doesn't taste like much, and it costs a lot. So the overall theme here is okay food/drink, and a too-high price.

Ultimately, I'm not sure the price is enough to justify hanging out in the outdoor seating...
