After over 10 years of remaining the one empty spot in the Plymouth Road mall (the prev location of the AADL Traverwood branch) things finally started looking up with notices and interior work in 2021. Then a further seven months of seeing a ready-to-open restaurant that seemed like it wasn't going to and the city finally approved the license. And now, those in the know will agree, the north side of A2 finally has a real Mexican fast-casual dining restaurant.
The decor is very tastefully done, with artworks reminiscing central America and furniture of varnished hardwood. The bright, cheery atmosphere also has a lot to do with your overall positive dining experience.
The most important part, the food ofcourse, is super fresh and well prepared. I believe the spice level can go up a few notches and yet retain the target clientele. Modern take on Mexican food, our orders were the El Limon chicken fajita bowls - one habanero one plain and both were great. The rice pudding is recommended. Will repeat to try some of their other menu items.
Edit: my repeat visit for a Chicken Shawarma Chhese quesadilla was...
Read moreRead about this place online and had to check it out; I was very impressed. Very clean facilities and quick service. The piano in the dining room was being tuned while I was there, which to me shows a commitment to takign care of the place. I had the stuffed grape leaves and lentil soup. The stuffed grape leaves were superb! Best I've ever had. The lentil soup was good too, despite the fact that I had to eat around the cilantro since it tastes like soap to me. I wouldn't have ordered it otherwise. I asked the man at the counter what he reccommended and he said he was a fan of their steak, so I ordered a steak burrito. I'm glad I did. It was delicious, and SO BIG! Almost the size of my forearm. I'm not normally one to leave a meal unfinished, but I had to wrap up over half of it and take it home. Prices were very reasonable. Overall, I'm very impressed, and pleased to have such a restaurant open in my neighborhood. I will definitely be returning, and I'm also telling all of my friends and neightbors to come...
Read moreI went here recently with one other person to try this place for the first time, and we both left disappointed.
I ordered the 3 steak taco meal for $15 and the other got the 2 ground beef taco meal for $11. Both meals came with beans and rice. Good portion sizes, no complaints there.
The issue is that these were the blandest tacos I have ever eaten! The other person also agreed that the taco meat tasted bland, like it wasn't even seasoned at all. I've had better tacos at the Taco Bell on Washtenaw!
If you're looking for a Mexican food option in this area, my recommendation is to try either the Bandito's to the east, or the Beiruck taco truck at the Shell Station to the west. Bandito's is in a similar price range, but offers more options than El Limōn, such as chimichangas, taquitos, and enchiladas. The Beirock taco truck has a decent range of menu items as well, including the delicious quesabirrias.
Competition for Mexican cuisine is tough around here and I'm afraid El Limōn doesn't quite...
