Hazel Coffee Co — Restaurant in Ann Arbor

They open on Wednesday. But I didn’t know that and stopped in anyways. The door was locked so I was confused, there were no signs. This guy working on a laptop hood up and rushed to open the door and tells me they’re not open yet, but if I just wanted a coffee they’d oblige. I said yeah I just wanted a coffee and he invited me in. His wife was making me a coffee and they were telling me about their new business and a lot of the trials they’d been through getting it up and running. The Ann Arbor building dept lost all of their inspection reports even!😳 Which is strange, I’m a builder and work with the Ann Arbor building dept often. I’ve worked in Chicago, Atlanta, Indiana, Chattanooga; I’ve worked everywhere. Ann Arbor has THEE best building dept I’ve ever worked with. They’re thorough and very helpful. I’ve learned most of what I know from working with them. And having owned businesses myself, I know the struggles! But this couple was nothing but smiles, courtesy, and exceptional service. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that providing a great service is the best business model. Overcome the obstacles and learn from them. To see this young couple starting out with this coffee venture was refreshing! I hope they do well. They didn’t even charge me for the coffee and I didn’t realize that until I was gone. Hazel Coffee is the best coffee around! such a treat to have this gem in our neighborhood! The vibe of the place is immaculate !!! so cozy so clean so inviting and everyone who works there is absolutely incredible. Such positive happy vibes and you can tell that they are so passionate about the work that they are doing and providing for their customers. Truly an amazing experience. I am so happy they are open. This space has such an awesome feel to it. It looks like the kind of space that I’d love to regularly come to in order to get some work done while sipping on one of the highest-quality coffee drinks you can come by.

On top of that, the owners are around and they clearly put a lot of care into the space so that they can make connections with their local community. They’re some of the nicest people around.
