Mang Eton replaced Sari Sari Filipino Kusina sometime in January or February. I wish I had visited Sari again before it had closed but I made a visit to Mang Eton.
First thing - the signage has not been updated. Hopefully in time they will replace the signage. I feel like keeping that sign up is the only thing pulling some of the old diners who aren't aware Sari had closed.
Food: I ordered the Lechon Kawali, it is my go-to when I visited Sari Filipino Kusina. I understand that the recipe may not be the same, or the process for Mang Eton's lechon, but unfortunately the lechon was dry, the fat on the pork itself was nearly void of any moisture. This can only happen if it's kept under a heat-lamp all day. The plate was also devoid of any sides. Previously a side of pickled vegetables would be served as well to cut the richness of the fat with some acidity. The only thing left is negative space on the plate with Mang Eton.
I would say the portion took up about 40-50% of my plate. The serving of rice was even smaller. I do not understand why they are being stingy when charging $17 for a pork and rice dish.
Service: I have nothing but good things to say about the person manning the register, as the lady at the front was sweet, accommodating and let me know that the restaurant was under new ownership.
Food: 1/5 Service: 5/5 Cost/Value: 1/5
I will visit again in the future, I understand they may have had an off-day. I will update this review in the event that I am wrong about them but as of now I could not recommend this place to any of my...
Read moreWe decided to visit this restaurant to explore something new, and while we were hopeful, our experience was disappointing. We ordered the Turo-Turo with two sides of ulam and rice, but sadly, the food arrived cold, and the string beans were undercooked. The adobo didn’t have the authentic flavor I was looking for, and the rice was mushy. Given the prices, I expected a higher quality meal. It’s tough to see a place with so much potential not quite meeting expectations, especially when people worldwide rave about our cuisine. At home, I often feel our cooking surpasses many Filipino restaurants, except for one in Woodbridge that consistently serves delicious dishes. I wish they would consider bringing in someone who could elevate their menu and culinary skills. I’m still looking forward to trying the sizzling plate next time, hoping for a...
Read moreOur family of three thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Mng Eton's which took over Sari Sari Kusina. We were delightfully surprised by the friendly client service as well as the flavors that exploded in our mouths! We tried the Cebuano lechon and palabok combo, including lumpia and sticks. Wherever we have the palabok, we have to compare it to Lola's recipe. Mng Eton and family did not disappoint, and the chef himself came out to greet us. I'm from Jersey City (NJ), little Manila, and I felt right at home at Mng Eton's. Treating clients like family is much appreciated and lends itself to creating community. Local jazz singer Uni Gracia graced us w. a karaoke song too. Reminded me of many celebrations at NYC's Pinoy spot, Mandarin Grill, years ago. Grateful Mng Eton is in the neighborhood. We will...
