CAVA — Restaurant in Annapolis

Cava used to be one of my casual dining go tos, but my last 3 visits have been awful. For the first two were long lines, little staff, and a messy dining room, but the food was up to their normal standard. Today, however, I was there around 6:30 pm. There was almost no line. Four people behind the counter and at least one more in the kitchen (visible through the window). Almost all of the containers on behind the counter were almost empty and things were not being refilled. I ordered a pita and after the dips were scooped on the pita, the young man behind the counter grabbed 2 spatulas to spread mine and the person after me’s dips on their pita and he put mine directly on the service counter before using it to spread the dips. I then asked for harissa chicken (which still had what looked like a serving and a half in the container) and he called back to the kitchen to find out when more would be available-that person said 10 minutes, but he told me it would be “a minute.” I order braised lamb instead. When it came time for the toppings, the woman that was working that station was inconsistent with how much she put on of each and then drowned the pitas in the requested dressing. She did not give us the option to dine in and instead asked if we wanted a bag with our food. When we tried to find a place to sit in the restaurant (where only one other group was sitting), every tabled was covered in grease and other food products. I wanted something fresh and healthy. Mediterranean fit that. I chose this Cava because of its location. I love visiting Annapolis and the surrounding areas. My husband and I came here for a very late lunch/early dinner. It was a good time to visit because there were no crowds. The prices were similar to, or even lower than, other places of this type that we have eaten at recently. The service was quick, the choices ample, and the food itself was fresh and delicious. My husband raved about his pita; he enjoyed it immensely. I had the Greek bowl with some red lentils added. Yum! The fountain drink choices were some of my favorites. I especially love the blueberry soda. One thing that bothers me about many fast food restaurants, food courts, and cafes is that the tables are not kept clean. It pretty much disgusts me to walk around a dining area, looking for a clean table and struggling to choose the least dirty one! At some, I have even seen an employee seated at one of the tables eating their meal, surrounded by dirty tables. I can't stress enough how that reflects on the management in my eyes. No employee should take a break before checking that the seating area is clean and tidy. I am happy to say that this Cava restaurant had clean tables, although it wasn't their busiest time of day, granted. If the tables HAD been dirty during a slow time, as I have seen in other places?
