So my Wife and I went to Home Depot and upon leaving the parking lot she spotted Julep. The name alone had us both intrigued. She said let me check this place out on Yelp. The reviews were good and I quickly pulled over so we could check out the menu. The menu item descriptions were great and we said hey it's lunch time let's pick some up to go home with. We ordered the Smoked and Deep Fried Old Bay wings, along with the Southern Egg Rolls, Basket of Biscuits, and the Brussel Sprouts topped with Pecan and Goat Cheese. First off, the Wings were amazing. Just the right amount of smokey and sweet flavor and then they fried it if the smoking wasn't enough. They were jumbo sized and delicious. Second came the Southern Egg Rolls stuffed with Pulled Pork,Black Eyed Peas, Collard Greens, Cream Cheese and Jack Cheese. At first we both thought, cream cheese? But then you take a bite and you understand why every ingredient was added to this little piece of heaven. Only one of the two in the container made it home uneaten. The 2 biscuits we ordered were HUGE! Crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The honey butter that comes with them adds the icing on the biscuit "cake". I mean you could eat these biscuits on their own but then you add the honey butter and pow it hits you, these two were meant for each other. Last but certainly not least we had the Brussel Sprouts topped with Candied Pecans, Bacon, and Goat Cheese. I have recently fallen in love with brussel sprouts, I like them prepared various ways but adding candied pecans, goat cheese and of course bacon you have a flavor explosion bursting in your mouth. I can't wait until they open MD back up and we are able to dine in at Julep. This food was great! We live in Laurel and this is way out in Annapolis but it would be worth the trip to eat...
Read moreI've been here a few times now, and I'm a fan of their sister- restaurant, The Hideaway. This place is such a fun spot, and a great place to enjoy a good meal. We were recently here to celebrate a special occaision and Julep made it a wonderful night!
First, when you walk in just the smell of this place will put you in the mood for an amazing meal. It's the amazing aroma of whatever they've got on the smoker, and it's never not good smelling!
Every server we've ever had here has always been so lovely. They're attentive, know the menu, offer suggestions, provide your order just as you ask for it... never ever a complaint about service.
The food is spectacular. You really cannot go wrong with whatever you decide to try. Most recently I tried the chicken thighs platter with blueberry bbq sauce. I am not a big fan of bbq sauce- but I would eat anything slathered in this stuff! I wanted to try some sides I hadn't had yet, so I asked for the potato salad and the yams- not realizing at the time the carb fest I had just ordered, lol. Their potato salad is insane! I was not expecting to be blown away by potato salad, but I was! The yams made me ready for a nap. They were warm and delicious and filling!
We shared an order of the brussel sprouts because you cannot come here and not try them! They are heavenly.
My one and only gripe is that I wish they had a few more options that are a bit lighter. Most of the entrees are pretty heavy, and a lot of it is fried. Yes, that means it's absolutely delicious but sometimes you just need something a little lighter and that's one of the only reasons we don't come here sometimes. If you have not tried this place- you've really got to stop in though. Highly recommend and I'm already looking forward to our...
Read moreWhen we walked in we were greeted softly by the hostess who sat us immediately. Our server came to the table within 10 minutes of us being seated. We were waiting on a fourth person so the timing for me wasn’t bad.
I ordered the Blackberry Chipotle Chicken Thighs with the baked Mac-n-Cheese and Brussel Sprouts. I also got a side of the hush puppies with honey butter. My dish was absolutely amazing. The staple of the meal was definitely the chicken. It was seasoned absolutely perfectly. While the temperature of the chicken could have been hotter it was still delicious. The mac-n-cheese had a crispy top and it was creamy and delicious. The Brussel sprouts were also amazing. The goat cheese and candied pecans really helped these out. There was a mix of salty and sweet with both crunchy and soft Brussels throughout. I would recommend this dish to anyone visiting Julep. Definitely a 9 out of 10 dish for me.
My sister got the Chicken Fried Steak and her sides were the mashed potatoes, hush puppies and corn bread. Now Theresa likes cream gravy over chicken instead of brown gravy and this dish came with brown gravy. It was still good but the steak was really crispy. It was seasoned very well. The mashed potatoes were a little bland. The corn bread was thick but being homemade it’s kind of excepted. All together though she gave this dish a 7 out of 10.
Not pictured was the fried green tomatoes with shrimp. I didn’t eat any because I HATE tomatoes 😂 but my sister loves them and said they were very flavorful. The only downfall was that the tomatoes were a little too soft.
All in all, the dine in experience was actually nice. The food was pretty good. The atmosphere was clean, music was good and not too loud. Our server came around often to check on us...
