If I could give a rating lower than 1 star I would. The entire staff seems to be over their skis. From management, to the wait staff, everyone seems to be overwhelmed. My wife, daughter and I were very excited to try a new restaurant in our hometown of Apopka. If you’re from Apopka or have lived here any considerable amount of time, you know there are not a lot of food options. Mexican food happens to be our favorite. We walk in and are greeted 5 minutes after just standing in the foyer. Not a big deal at all, again they’re new and are trying to work out the kinks, so to speak. We are finally seated and we order the queso fundido to start, along with our main course to share and our daughter’s food. The queso fundido comes out rather quickly and is very good, so I’m excited and can’t wait for the main course. A half hour after the queso fundido was put down, we continue to wait for the main course. My daughter’s food comes and she finishes her food and another 20 minutes or so go by and I tell my wife, hey I think they gave our food to that other table who had arrived a few minutes ago...Well we continue to wait as the wait staff are not attentive at all and our waiter was probably trying to avoid us at this point because he knew what I had already suspected. So after another few minutes go by he builds up the courage to tell us...someone took your food... Obviously I’m thinking who could have taken our food? I didn’t take it and by his own admission, he hadn’t either. He assured us that it was being prepared and would be out shortly. After another 10 minutes I asked to speak to the manager and canceled the remaining portion of our order. The manager said...I’m sorry, this isn’t supposed to happen... I thought to myself...well no this isn’t supposed to happen... I wished him the best and told him to get it under control because he is now in the customer service and food business which is the toughest business to be successful in and at a time where consumer discretionary income is low and inflation is high for both consumers and restauranteers. Some 70 percent or so of restaurants close within the first 24 months of opening, that is why I’m so impressed with John Rivers who not only opened a restaurant locally during the height of a recession, but has flourished. One attention to detail is paramount, along with good food, service at a reasonable price. So it is hard but can certainly be done...My advice, San Miguel, get it together soon because our first impression was the absolute worse experience I have ever had at a...
Read moreNew place and my wife and I were excited to try it. The service was slow to nonexistent. There was two other party already there and eating. The waiter came over and we placed our order. I asked a couple of questions about the items. Seemed ok. Another 15min later and still no chips, salsa or napkins despite the fact that the waiter was having a great time talking to the waitresses. I finally got up and asked about both. They seemed like I was bothering them. The chips and salsa arrived 5 min later. The chips were a normal amount but the salsa was not big enought for anyone but maybe a kid. Still no napkins. The Tomales arrived covered in sour cream. This was not mentioned on the menu or by the waitor. Also, the red sauce was just about nonexistent. One of the was covered with a green sauce and sour cream. Again, not what it said on the menu. I don't care for sour cream on food so this not appreciated. My wife ate them. My wife's plate arrived with sour cream everywhere. Now, I am worried about my plate. My plate arrived 7 minutes later and was wrong too. The menu said the steak and shrimp were to be cooked in red sauce. Not true. The steak was tastless and had no seasoning on it at all. The shrimp has just a tiny amount of sauce on them. I asked why was the steak and shrimp not cooked in the sause as the menu said. He offered up some nonsense answer. I asked for some sause to dip in. He brought out the smallest amount possible. Even dipping the steak in the sause didn't help. Nothing had any taste. Also, our waiter spent a ton of time at the table next to us and never came back to fill the glasses or even check on us. My wife was also not impressed with her plate. Simple tacos that had the same tastless meat in them and way too much salt. The prices were very high for what poor food quality and service we received. I will...
Read moreThis was my first time going to San Miguel Mexican Grill, I made a to go order. I ordered steak fajitas and a chicken soup. I asked for corn tortillas then I asked a few questions about something else on the menu to the person taking my order but they kept having to put me on hold to ask someone else. That’s ok, i figure they’re new. I arrived to pick up my food, it wasn’t ready yet which was also no big deal. The hostesses at the front was very sweet and said it’ll be out soon. So i took a seat and waited. A tall young man comes out with my order “fajitas for Maria” the hostess corrects him and says “it’s Mariah” he then proceeds to say “Mariah or Maria I don’t care” wow ok. That was super rude but i let it go. No big deal, then i get home to realize they forgot my tortillas, i call back and it’s the same young man who made the comment, he says he can refund me a dollar or i can pick up the tortillas, no big deal i say I’ll pick them up but I’d like to order something else since I’m coming back.... except he hung up on me ? I was shocked but went to get my tortillas, upon arrival no one seems to know anything about my phone call and i get my tortillas and an apology BUT i still didn’t get the corn tortillas. They gave me flour tortillas. Overall, the service was trash and the steak fajitas were mediocre and lacked flavor or depth. The tortillas weren’t any better. Amazing chicken soup though, the best part of...
