Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Ardmore

Just celebrated my mom’s birthday here after the Diana Ross concert. We sat at a high top table in the bar area. The restaurant was not very busy. We were sitting for about 7 mins. While sitting we made casual conversation with each other we saw 3 waitresses stand at the far corner of the bar staring at our table. We were the only ones in our area so there was no mistake they were looking at us. They were talking to each other and kept looking in our direction then the hostess joined them. We continued to watch the college basketball ball game on the television and talk to each other. I looked at my watch and noticed it had been 3 more minutes. The hostess walked towards the bar area so I called for her and asked her who or waitress was. I turned around and the waitresses were still standing by the far end of the bar. One was drinking a dark soda, the other putting on chapstick - both of them looked in our direction and continued doing nothing - remember I said there were not a lot of people in the restaurant. The hostess oh I’m not sure. I asked is it one of those ladies that aren’t doing anything. She said I thought it was supposed to be. A waitress from another section came over and said I heard you ma’am and I want to apologize for no one waiting on you yet. I’ll take your orders. We asked her was this her area and she said no but I don’t like to see people at a table not being waited on and from hearing you it sounds like you guys have been waiting a awhile. I asked her why didn’t the other waitresses come over. She said I’m not sure but I’m here now. I’ll help you guys.

Food - 5 stars The food was great! Someone kiss the cook. Service -5 stars - Our waitress Mindy was amazing and took care of not only our table but several others while those same waitresses sat and watched her work. We spoke to the manager Brenda to express our complaints about how it made us feel. Brenda also told us that AppleBees doesn’t sing happy birthday but we could do it ourselves and do whatever we wanted. Since when did AppleBees stop singing happy birthday. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Our waitress came back afterwards to bring our ticket and said I tried to get some of the others to come sing happy birthday to you but they wouldn’t. I told her the manager just said they don’t sing happy birthday. She said since when.🤔

Atmosphere - 1 star The women’s bathroom was dirty and stall one didn’t have toilet paper. Instead of these two ladies doing nothing besides stare at our table - they could have been cleaning the bathroom and stocking it with supplies. Dirty carpet in the bar area with stains.

Atmosphere - 1 star - So to make it seem intentional that these two waitresses didn’t make an attempt to wait on our table — 2 couples were sat near us at the other two bar tables and the waitress that was standing and staring at our table quickly appeared at those two tables to serve them. It’s really sad to think it was about color with those two waitresses but the other two tables were not the same color as we were.

WISH I COULD LEAVE 0 STARS. Around 15 minutes before I ever saw the hostess, then she sat 2 of the tables that were ahead of us over a period of time. A family stood up and mentioned that they were there before those 2 previous tables and the older lady who was the hostess proceeded to argue with them as they were on the way out the door. She has yet to take names or any info from the people that keep arriving including my family. Finally got seated and our waitress walks by saying that it will be a while she just got double sat. A short time later she takes our drink and app order. Followed by a wait while she disappears, finally comes to take our order and we add salads to my wife and my meals. Drinks and appetizers came out at a decent time, so I thought things were going to clear up... I was wrong. During the hour+ wait for our food I had to get up and walk to the bar to ask the bartender for refills of my family's sodas. The waitress then walks up and asks us if she has given us our check. I informed her that we haven't even gotten our food. She walks off and a different waitress finally brings us our food. At that point I asked her to remove the salads from our order because we had never received them the whole time, sad because my wife usually loves their salads.. My chicken was almost too crisp to eat but my family's food came out right. By this time I just wanted to feed my wife and children and get to leave. The waitress never refilled any of our drinks or even checked on us. Finally bringing us our check I paid with my card. She returned and asked me to sign it while hovering over my table. We had no plans on Eating Out on Christmas. But due to our ceiling falling in, in the kitchen the day before a home made dinner was not going to happen unfortunately. I give my 3 stars not because I don’t understand that Christmas is hell for retail and restaurants a like. Truthfully I give it because I understand that fact all to well. If it wasn’t the holidays and someone at my table didn’t get their food, on top of the food given being cold and one person gets over cooked food, on top of how long it took to get said food…you would be get 2 stars just for the fact that the waitress was trying so hard and It was nice to sit in a warm environment. I also am taking into account that many people had busted pipes and have had this Christmas turn upside down. While I was happy for a warm place to sit. I think someone should have made the decision to close the restaurant portion and just do takeout. It may have helped your cook not panic and getting home and having food that needs to be reheated is more understandable. Praise your waitress during the lunch hour because even though they were running around doing their best, it was obvious they were equally flustered and felt helpless in the situation caused by the back up due to all pick up orders.
