While certainly not the best food I've eaten, it was still good but certainly not what l would consider to be great.
Upon arrival l found the exterior of this establishment to be well maintained and free of any noticeable detracting issues.
Upon entry of this establishment, I was immediately and warmly greeted upon arrival and invited to sit wherever I wanted. I found my table to be clean and well stocked. I couldn't help but notice that all of the condiments bottles on the table had been previously cleaned and we're free of debris or left over accumulated residue from previous patrons. Something unfortunately often neglected and overlooked in today's world.
My server was busier then a long tailed cat at a rocking chair convention, but still quickly made contact with me and filled my beverage order in a timely fashion. Additionally she made continuous contact with me throughout my entire meal ensuring my needs were fully met.
Based on previous Google reviews, I elected to try the chicken fried steak, additionally l ordered medium poached eggs, hash browns, and a grilled English muffin. Additionally l ordered ice water and a decaf coffee.
My food arrived shortly after ordering. I felt the delay between the time l ordered and the time the food arrived to be minimal at best, l felt it was rather quick, especially since the place was occupied at just under full capacity.
Sadly I found my chicken fried steak disappointing, it obviously was a institutional prepackaged frozen puck. Additionally I found my gravy to be thin, and obviously out of a premade, prepackaged bag of gravy powder, to be generous, it was a less than impressive imitation to real gravy. I found the poached eggs cooked well past the point of what l considered to be medium. I found my hash browns to be lacking any substantial noticeable flavor. I found my English muffin to be buttered rim to rim and grilled to absolute perfection.
In a desperate attempt to flavor the food, l added abundant salt and ample pepper to it in order to revive it.
No it's certainly wasn't the best food I've ever eaten, but it was good. While not excessively expensive, the food prices were fair and reflective of the inflationary insanity of the world we currently live in. I did not find it valued priced nor did I find it excessively pricey.
I experienced top-notch customer service from the moment I walked in until l departed the establishment. At no time did I ever need anything and this was achieved solely by the means of the efforts of the exemplary wait staff. My coffee was simply never allowed to get low.
And while I'm not sure if I would return with any great regularity, l would still return. And this is solely based on my expectations that I thought the food was institutionally disappointing and truthfully could have been better. I personally don't believe it's extremely or overly difficult to cook real food and serve it to people versus just warming up pre-packaged institutional imitation food and pawning it off as imitation homemade food.
The restrooms are located further to the north in the same strip mall. You'll need to inquire with your server for the current access code to secure entry.

Read moreLast Friday my mom and I drove from SV to GV for a visit. We thought we would have a nice breakfast and found Mama's Kitchen. Our waitress was so sweet and she did a great job. Unfortunately the food was terrible. I don't think I have ever tasted such awful home fries. I'm sure they were microwaved and had absolutely zero flavor and they were cold cubes. Also got sourdough toast, 2 tiny slices and 2 cold eggs and a water. My mom got the half order of eggs Benedict, cold hashbrowns and hot tea and the total bill, with tax 27.00+ a 6.00 tip. Not only was the food not good but the cost was ridiculous. Ugh! I know food is expensive, but a total of 3 eggs, a serving of cold, frozen potato squares, small serving of hashbrowns, 2 tiny pieces of of sour dough bread and hot tea was almost 30.00. If you are going to charge that amount of money, the meal should be fantastic! Breakfast is the cheapest meal to make. Make it worth the visit! Please do something about those home fries. The waitress did warn us that the hash Browns were much better than the home fries. I guess I should have listened. They are just frozen little cubes of old potatoes and they are awful! Again, the waitresses are wonderful and the atmosphere nice. Please improve the quality of food. What does it take to make nice home made home fries. Throw out those frozen cubes! Thanks...
Read moreWe used to come here a fair amount, but hadn't eaten at Mama's Kitchen for a few years. There is a sign on the window advertising for a cook, and boy howdy do they need one. I got the cowboy, which was potatoes, chili, cheese and eggs. Hard to mess up, right? It was under seasoned, and the chili appears to be either made by someone who doesn't understand the concept or to be the cheapest nastiest canned stuff anyone could buy. Either way, it was sour and bitter, like it'd turned. My daughter's corned beef hash was similar in texture to scrapple, for those familiar with the Maryland dish made from fried ground pork snout, but with next to no seasoning. The other dishes served were also under seasoned and, where applicable, unpleasantly sweet. We had to pop to the Safeway across the street for parfait to get the taste out of our mouths. No one was able to finish - and it's not super cheap either.
A real shame. The service was good, but that's about all this place has...
