RESPONSE: Since I couldn't reply to Nino's response, I'm adding it here. We were indeed able to find an establishment that meets our needs....Don Rubens on Bell Road. WELL WORTH the short drive outside the "compound."
ORIGINAL POST: We eat here at least one to two times a month (sometimes more) as we live in Sun City West, and it is convenient. It is not our favorite Mexican food, but the flavor is good, the food does come out piping hot and like I said, it's close to home. However, this last week we had such a horrible server and while it may not prevent us from returning, we will certainly think twice before we do. There was no management there to share our story with, and therefore, the only thing we could do is reflect our dissatisfaction by tipping a mere 10%. We are typically VERY GOOD tippers, usually tipping at least 25% and sometimes 30% for good service. The gal was SO rude, that we gave her only the 10% but gave an additional 10% to another server that actually came by and filled our drinks and chatted a bit. I sure hope the other server (J.) did not have to forfeit her cash "gift tip" to the server assigned to our table (A.), because J. really deserved ALL the tip.
In case management decides to respond, let me share what actually happened: We (two of us) asked for a table for four as we were meeting friends (two of them). They were not busy so they did go ahead and seat us. Had they said we had to wait for the entire party to arrive before being seated, we would have been fine with that, as many restaurants do that now. Again, however, they were not busy. The server (A.) came to our table and asked how many, and we said four. I told her we would both have water, and the other couple would have water and tea. She said, well we wait to bring their drinks until they get here (um, okay). So she brings our water, and as fate would have it, our guests were about 10 minutes late, so we were alone for about 20 minutes. We asked if she could bring our chips and salsa while we waited and she said, "we don't bring those until the entire party arrives." Seriously? So I said, "what if they don't end up showing up?" She then said, "well, then you can ask for them." So, we both looked at each other and I'm sure she could tell we were annoyed, so she goes to the kitchen and brings back the chips and salsa and slaps them on the table and says nothing! Our guests did finally arrive and she was SO rude the entire time. Not sure what her beef was, as we have NEVER been told we had to wait for chips and salsa until the entire party arrived. Clearly she was having a bad night and decided we were her target. ...
Read moreThis was our first time going to Nino's Mexican Restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile, and even though they were packed, we were immediately sat at one of the two-seater dining tables. The inside was cheery, and pretty clean. By the time we had placed our order there was already a line of people waiting to be seated. Obviously it's a popular place! The food was served hot, and it was very tasty. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned and the chimichanga was all meat! No filler, no rice shoved in there, no tomatoes and peppers to take up space of the meat. It was delicious! We had food to take home as the portion sizes are very nice. We also had an extra appetizer with some bean dip so got a little full from that. Our iced teas were filled, with great customer service, and the busboys and waitress were phenomenal. If you're looking for some delicious food, great service, and very good prices, this is an amazing Mexican food restaurant to try. Due to the location you might have a few minutes wait, but it's worth it. Totally kid friendly, casual, and a good...
Read moreWe were seated immediately on a pretty busy Saturday evening. The average age of the crowd was about 55 years old. The service was great, and the water tasted really good. The chips were fresh and the salsa was good, if a bit mild (catering to that senior crowd I assume). We got the bean dip appetizer because we saw a bunch of reviews for it and it was GOOD. Highly recommend bean dip. We got numbers 25 and 26, a chicken chimicanga and flautas. The rice was heavy on the cracked pepper — if you like cracked pepper, this is the place for you! If you are sensitive to pepper, consider asking for a little less. It goes really well with the rice and beans though. My wife said the chicken in her flautas was a little dry, but overall was good. I do wish my chimi was a little crispier, but overall I was satisfied. Our waiter was good and helped us clean up when I spilled my...
