I love bao. So while in the DMV area this past week, I was really excited to try this place. Because of the setup, "service" is virtually nonexistent. No one greets you when you walk in, and you're expected to know that you need to order on the kiosk that is conveniently situated in front of the register. Though, the ordering process is self guided (no opportunities to ask questions about the menu), you must track down an employee for a receipt after you've paid. As for the food, the buns alone are really good. However, as for the flavor of the contents of the 3 buns we tried, they were just okay. The fried shrimp bun was the best. The pork belly bun was decent. But the friend chicken bun was really bland and had no flavor. I ended up taking the chicken off and just eating the bun. Oh, let me know forget the "loaded" fries. I have no words...other than TERRIBLE (see photo). The shop is cutely decorated and situated right by the common area of the plaza. There was one other person at the restaurant while I was there on a Thursday evening; though the plaza was full of patrons. That should have been my sign. 😭 In all honesty, I more than likely won't eat here again when I return...
Read moreI don't understand this place at all. Are you a restaurant? Are you a drug front? Are you both? First time coming here and walked in to be greeted by absolutely no one. No staff was up front aside from two other customers. They also didn't have the heat on and had two space heaters to heat the whole place. It was so frigid inside. Additionally, the place gave a feeling of no one wanting to be there and were forced to come in and work. Ordered from a kiosk and ordered Bao and soda. I had to ask if I get my own drink from the cooler or if they bring one out. While I waited for my ordered I went to the restroom and opened what could be the lightest door possible that it felt like it was foam. The whole experience was so bizarre
The food eventually arrived and was super disappointing for what you pay. The "fried shrimp" tasted like it was just reheated microwavable seafood. Overall, I would never...
Read moreso freaking good, I was honestly their first customer and I went in just because I walk pass that store everyday but it's usually vacant. got the two Boa buns (shrimp and chicken) I watched a movie while I ate and in the middle of eating I Paused the movie and went back to order more.
If you really want to know how good their food is. When I was moving out of the apartments across the street moving to far to come back, I ordered two giant orders of the rice bowls. I'm literally trying to find a job close to the area just so I can go back. All the buns are great The tacos are the best Rice bowl are amazing (always get the sauces drizzled over) the tots are always crispy (could use maybe a little salt) and the chicken sandwich is fantastic I regret not trying the soft shell crab
I ending up buying food for people twice who both went...
