A hidden treasure with spectacular views. It amazes me that locals often aren’t aware of this spot. Fortunately it’s just far enough that I don’t think it’ll end up on tourist maps. Except for 4th of July fireworks, I’ve never seen the limited parking spaces filled up. Just don’t come here after dark! Not because of the boogeyman….the police will get ya! I know parks in Arlington are closed after dark but one night I brought some visiting friends here and within minutes we were being questioned. It simply didn’t occur to me at that moment of sightseeing that this was a park. You can still see the views here at night, just don’t cross the rock wall boundary and you’re fine. And I don’t fault the police for doing their job. Shenanigans happen in parks at night. Anyway, a great spot to bring tourists for a 5-10 minute stop for pics of the Air Force Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, The Pentagon, National Cathedral, Potomac, etc etc. I’m not aware of any other spot you can just drive up to for an equivalent overlook of the DC area.
