There’s something undeniably charming about First Down. Maybe it’s the unpretentious “hole-in-the-wall” vibe, the affordable prices, or the friendly, laid-back staff—but whatever it is, it just works. The menu is classic bar fare—burgers, nachos, wings—but the portions? Way bigger than you'd expect. The loaded fries, for example, came in a bowl so massive that I barely made a dent, but it was exactly the kind of greasy comfort food you want after a rough night out. What really sets the place apart is the service. Jerry and Talia are the kind of bartenders who remember your name, check in without hovering, and make you feel like a regular—even if it’s your first visit.

As a couple who goes to first down multiple times a week, i cannot speak highly enough of EVERY element of this bar. The food and drinks are great, but the servers/bartenders/regulars are truly what turned my boyfriend and I into regulars. Specifically, Deo, Kaitlin, Paul, Annie, Anthony, Josué, Jerry, Talia, and their chef, Orlando. We have been to First Down ~literally~ hundreds of times, celebrated both our birthdays here multiple times, brought all of our friends here, and have never had an unpleasant experience. This truly is the greatest bar in the world, and we consider their staff and other regulars our family. TLDR: 10000000/10 would recommend for anyone

I placed an order for delivery and never received my food. I ordered directly through their website and even received multiple messages confirming the status of my order, yet never received the actual delivery. When I called the restaurant, I was told that the order was sitting there and I needed to pick it up myself. When I said that I placed the order for delivery, the manager hung up on me. After calling back multiple times, he was not interested in helping at all and instead claimed that he could not hear me and that I still needed to pick up my food, and then he hung up on me again and again. I’m now hungry and sad.

Sunday football 🏈 playoffs! My Cowboys lost
 😖

Fantastic friendly fun service from Talia & Crew. Wings, waffle fries, ample libations, genuine draught Guinness! —đŸș đŸ» A finely awesome time with your pals! đŸ‘đŸ‘đŸœđŸ‘đŸż

—————

Cool little hangout, actually bigger than appears from Fairfax Drive, with large back room huge enough for a good group gathering. Excellent sports viewing and sliders to nosh. Fantastic table service by Teo & his bro’s make your Sunday game losses bearable. 😎

—————

Delish wings, finely seasoned and cooked just right. For me, the burger was perfect, a perfect end to a very busy day. Drinks made by Slick-Barkeep Anthony (and on occasion, Manager Paul) real down and done rightly. The tv’s are positioned well, not too loud, and show just about all that day’s live sports & such commentary you can enjoy free.

Not too expensive, a good choice for you to splurge for yourself and on a buddy you care about. However, this is indeed the NoVa area, and you are sitting yourself in Ballston [“Little Manhattan”] so understand if you just arrived from Ottumwa Iowa, Milwaukee Wisconsin, or perhaps Tucson Arizona that prices are commensurate with the government blowing up the economy fast with a nonstop flood of your tax dollars. [And if you are lucky enough to benefit from the gov’t paying out more and more and more, then please leave a generous tip at the bar or on your table. These dudes earn it so!]

See y’all at the zinc!

Found the unlimited wing special and had to swing in. Wow great deal happy hour wings special of $17.99 for wings 5 at a time with over 20 flavors to choose from up until last call for wings at 8:30. We arrived at 8 luckily the waitress was able to place all our orders when the place was super packed. Party ordered macaronic cheese bites and steak tacos. They were raving about how good it was because of the combination of cheese and there house made dipping sauce. Steak tacos mediocre nothing special. On to their wings man they were delicious! Consistent size same as BWW and a lot larger than Wing Stops. We opted for BBQ, lemon pepper, honey garlic butter, kickin Korean BBQ was packing major heat. Service was great even with a packed crowd and about 20 min wait for a table. We ordered our food and it came out in 10 mins. Each order of wings comes with 1 sauce and 2 celery sticks. I'll definitely be back to try some of there other flavors and burgers. Theres plenty of street pay to park parking, but free parking in the back of the bar by the dumpster if you can find a spot. Waitress told us to come by 5 every Wednesday to avoid wait times and get your bang for your buck...

I do not like bars, but I absolutely LOVE this spot. I don't do drugs so I won't be talking about the alcohol, but for those who partake I'm sure the drinks excel in every way they can. I am an exceptionally picky eater, to the point where it can drive me crazy, so color me surprised when EVERYTHING on the menu was perfect, down to texture, flavor, and presentation. Including the things I'd NEVER consider putting anywhere near my mouth. Like a sauce called "spicy maple?" You think a picky eater like me would ever choose that? No! But here? Of course I'll try it! Why not! Even if I don't like the flavor, the texture and presentation of everything is amazing, the same goes vice-versa. It actually baffles me just how perfect everything was. I have severe sensory problems with certain types of chicken wings and made a tiny comment about how I prefer flats over other shapes, and after that, I ONLY get flats when I order the amazingly made wings. They actually care, they actually listen, and it shows. My fiancée and I love this...
