Needed to get some pan dulce and I found this place nearby. I came in and was greeted by a woman and I grabbed a tray with about 5 pieces of pan. For whatever reason, I thought to return the tongs that I used to grab the bread back to where they belong and then I went to pay for the bread. There was no line. I waited for the employees to finish their conversation so one of them could ring me out. A gentleman approached me and asked me to give him the tongs I used. I apologized and said I had returned them but I immediately went back to get them. For some reason, even though I brought back the tongs, I was met with attitude. He rolled his eyes and said, "No one ever reads the sign". I asked where the sign was just to see where my mistake was, he pointed in a general direction but I still did not see an obvious sign. My thoughts are if this is such a recurring thing happening, why not just keep a spare set of tongs at the front counter to pack the pan instead of giving your customers attitude about not reading your sign?
I tried to brush it off as nothing because I was excited to try their pan. There was one pan that I had never seen before that looked like an oreja, but larger and flatter. As he was packing my pan, I asked if it had cinnamon in it out of curiosity and to break the ice from the awkward silence. His response was, "Idk man, I don't eat this stuff". What a way to sell 😅 I don't think the attitude was warranted but oh well, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and maybe he was having a bad day. Overall though, I don't think he had any sense of customer service. It does not take much to be respectful or polite.
Finally the pan, I would say the taste is below average. I haven't had any pan anywhere that was not satisfactory but I have to say the pan here disappointed. The concha looked great because it had a lot of dulce on it. But after eating it, it kinda seemed like it baked just a little too long. The surface tasted a little too much like crust. The oreja wasn't too bad but it had a bit of a lemony flavor which I was surprised by. My favorite was the one I asked about the cinnamon,...
Read moreNO CUSTOMER SERVICE LOYALTY! CARE MORE ABOUT $6 bucks than DOING THE RIGHT THING. NO INTEGRITY. My husband and I have visited Marquez Bakery several times, and each time I got excited to taste their tres leches cake. I was happy I finally found a place with delicious tres leches. We loved it so much we even ordered a groom wedding cake in 2012. We went back several times and ordered whole tres leches cake. My husband happened to be in the area (40 minutes away from our home) and purchased two slices of tres leches along with a few other items. 2 tres leches slices were $6.98. I tasted the slices when he got home. The top was DRY AND CRUMBY, and had a BAD taste to it, and the bottom was soggy and milk tasted rotten. It made my stomach queasy. I took two little bites and decided to throw it away, didn't even open the 2nd slice. I called them immediately, the worker told me that it was old cake (3 days old) and if had our receipt (which we did) could return it. I gave them my number and the manager called me the following day. I told her I just wanted a refund because to drive 80 mins round trip for 2 slices of cake was not worth it. They told me they just tasted the cake THERE (NOT THE ONE I TASTED OBVIOUSLY) and it was FINE. I told them, well the one I had was terrible and old, they said well ours tastes good. We went back and forth. No "customer is always right" here! I even told them the person yesterday told me the cake was old. They told me I could drive there and then they could taste it and see, I told them I was not driving 80 mins and to please just refund my $6.98. They said NO. I asked them if they are more concerned with $6.98 than a happy and RETURNING customer, I told them all the business I have brought them, and the worker said she would ask her manager again, after being on hold for 10 minutes told, they gave me the same answer, NO. I let them know I would be giving them a bad review. ALL FOR $6. Is that not worth a happy, returning customer that's been loyal to you?...
Read moreI was in town visiting family and friends, and my family wanted to meet up at Marquez, a place they frequent. The drive in was a bit of an annoyance because there was a Texas Rangers baseball game about to start at the stadium across the street, and traffic was backed up. I ordered the gordita plate with two gorditas (one with barbacoa, one with guiso), rice and beans. My husband ordered cheese enchiladas with a tamal and rice and beans. Our order took a very long time - first they said it was because of the enchiladas, but then they ran out of rice. We opted to just get our meals without it, but the staff did bring us two portions of rice later. The gorditas were OK, rice and beans were kind of bland. My husband didn't like his enchiladas and said the tamal was mostly just masa. So, for this girl who originally hails from the Rio Grande Valley and eats Tex-Mex weekly, I really wanted to like Marquez, if for no other reason than because my family enjoys it, but the food simply missed the mark. What redeemed the whole experience was the friendly, attentive staff and the clean, cozy atmosphere. I didn't try anything from the panaderia, but it all...
