This is a addition to my original review after a very unprofessional response from the Restaurant ...I posted the screenshot of the response. Its sad how defensive the response was without any accountability at all. The reviewer that I watched review this food blatantly states in his review that the owner allowed him to eat the platter in his car so they were fully aware of who he was. Which is why I feel his food looked so amaizing. We need to understand as business owners we may not make everyone happy. That's ok it happens. We also need to take constructive criticism as a way to improve our establishments. Regardless of if I request a specific item or not none of my items were as pleasing to the eye or my pallet at all as the reviewers platter. It was ok nothing to write about. There was no cabbage on the menu. I ordered the only mac they had on the menu, i didnt see any other mac at all. My friend ordered the lamb and Rib tips and bbq mac and it was same experience. I was not going to take it to my YouTube or Radio show but I will definitely warn people. I will go to the reviewer post on Facebook and post this unprofessional screenshot. There is no excuse to be bias to how you present your food to all clients. BE FAIR TO ALL CUSTOMERS U NEVER KNOW WHO WILL WALK THROUGH THOSE DOORS.
I am disappointed at the way this restaurants give high end food reviewers great food and great presentations which makes people want to patronize the restaurants. My friend and I planned a Vacation to Dallas and we were excited to eat here because of the review this guy left about the food. Mind you he was not a anonymous reviewer so they were able to create this guy a awesome platter with great presentation.
I have had some bad experience but NEVER HAVE ANY OWENER RESPONDED IN SUCH A DEFESIVE UNPROFESSIONAL WAY TO MY REVIEW... NOT COOL
I feel it's unfair I will share my plate and a video of the food. My collards were mushy the Mac taste and looks like stove top Velveeta the brisket had so much fat on it and it look like the scraps of the brisket. It did not have any char or smoke taste. The toast was wet and soft. The rib tips were not flavorful ..we drove 48 min from our actual destination and I'm really disappointed. I love to do anonymous reviews and not let the owners know who I am...this was so disappointing please look at video and pics to see. His brisket and mac looks nothing like what we received. Its not fair at all. We are all paying customers and the first mission of a business should be to give everyone the same quality. I was excited about the brisket I told everyone about this place. Smh now u will tell everyone abt my experience. With over 170,000,000...
Read moreI went twice to this restaurant before writing a review. I didn’t plan it that way, but our friends wanted to try the restaurant just days after we went there the first time.
I discovered Smoke N Ash after reading an article about the local restaurants included in the Michelin Guide. It was only 15 minutes away, an easy drive. The others in the Michelin Guide were much further in Dallas and more expensive.
Customers place their orders and pay at the front counter. We were the only customers at the front counter on our first visit. On the second visit, there was a line of ten people. Once you pay for your order, they give you a number to put on the table of your choice. Your orders will be brought to you in about 15 minutes.
I don’t usually comment on the background music, but I liked what I heard. It was old 1960s songs in a smooth jazz style, some of which were seasonal Christmas songs. It was beautiful and relaxing.
The first time we went, we ordered a simple Tex-Ethiopian Awaze meat platter: one was chicken and the other was ribs. Awaze is a spicy Ethiopian sauce. They came with Ethiopian bread (a thick crepe) and vegetable stew. On the second visit, we ordered the Tex-Ethiopian Platter for Two. Our friends ordered Beef Tibs with Fries and Sliced Brisket.
The awaze is a bit spicy. It’s made of chili pepper, garlic, ginger, and other spices. But it’s not as hot as Indian or Thai curry. It doesn’t make you sweat. This was my first experience of awaze. I like it. It has more flavor than normal Texas barbeque sauce. And it complements meat very well.
All the different meats were tender and flavorful. For me, the meat was better than any other local barbeque I’ve tried. That says a lot because Texas has a lot of good barbeques.
We didn’t order potato salad or green beans, but the fried okra and French fries were perfect. Next time, we’ll try more of the Ethiopian side dishes. And their desserts too.
I think everyone should taste the food here. It’s excellent. We planned on taking home some leftovers, but we finished everything we ordered. I highly...
Read moreOk so I’ll tell you the good stuff first. The food here was AMAZING!! I can totally see why they were on the NYT top 25 new restaurants. It was interesting and creative and everything I’m looking for in a restaurant. We got the platter for 4 and it was the perfect way to try many different things. But the service was so disappointing. I am a bartender and I have been in the industry for 25 years. I am very hesitant to write a negative review anywhere. We have never been here before so I didn’t know the situation. I thought maybe they were still very busy/popular and we may need a reservation. I went online and saw that there was a reservation option, so that’s what I did. There are reservation times through 8pm on OpenTable. I neglected to check their hours, mostly bc I assumed they’d be open until at least 9pm on the weekend and bc they offered a 7:30 reservation so that’s what I booked. Spoiler…..They close at 8. There were at least 5-6 other tables when we walked in, but we were rushed through the entire meal. Told they were completely out of ice. The waiter and everyone else we encountered seemed blatantly annoyed that we were there. We were missing food listed on the menu on our plates (they brought out one thing, but pretty sure other things were missing) we asked the waiter what everything was (it’s Ethiopian, so we had no idea) we were given a vague “ummm, I don’t really know”, which was kinda weird. I don’t know, it just over all felt very like “get these aholes outta here.” I would never in a million years knowingly go to a restaurant that was closing in 30min, But again I just went by the reservation times offered. I’ve been waiting to try this place for ages bc my husband love’s Ethiopian and BBQ, so it was perfect for his birthday. I wanted so badly to love this place. Like I said the food was so good, but they need to fix the reservation thing if their going to be so annoyed when people book one that is offered close to...
