Solid Jamaican food, disappointing service - 4/5 Stars

Visited Mark’s Place and Restaurant for takeout and had a mixed experience. We ordered oxtail stew, curry chicken, jerk chicken, rice and peas, and fried plantain.

Food Quality: The food was well-prepared with everything coming out moist and tender. The jerk chicken had good spice levels, and both the rice and peas and fried plantain were excellent. Flavors were decent throughout, though could have been more robust in some dishes. For the price point, the seasoning was adequate but left room for improvement.

Value: Exceptional value - three large entrees fed our family of six for under $50. Portions are generous and appropriate for the pricing.

Service Issues: Unfortunately, service significantly detracted from the experience. Our server displayed a poor attitude and attempted to dissuade us from ordering the fried plantain to avoid preparing a fresh batch. We also witnessed her verbally berating another employee in front of customers, which was highly unprofessional.

Recommendation: Despite the service problems, Mark’s Place offers good Jamaican takeout at competitive prices. The food quality and portion sizes make it worthwhile, particularly for takeout orders where interaction with staff is minimal. Consider calling ahead for items that may require fresh preparation.

Would return for the food and value, but service...

Me and my women went to enjoy a meal hungry after taking a walk on the Boardwalk, and instead of telling us they’re about to close, they sell us 2 BBQ Chicken Dinners with Mac n Cheese, and the food was horrible I wouldn’t feed it to my dead dog. The chicken was hard as cement, so help me God may Allah strike me dead if I’m lying, the MAC n Cheese was hard too, and when I called they finally answered the phone and said were closed, come back tomorrow and we’ll give you some fresh food😡I just want my $30.00 back, I won’t ever ever go there again, “ if the lady needed $30.00 that bad I swear I woulda gave it to her, but to take our money knowing she was selling us some bad food that’s been out all day hard as a rock was very disrespectful, they knew what they were doing. I wouldn’t recommend anyone going there, go at your own risk, I’m warning you the place isn’t cool😡😡😡I won’t ever go there again...

Great place, fantastic service, HUGE portions. I came in at 9:50pm on a Friday and it was 10 minutes from closing. At the time they only had curry chicken left but Mark was kind enough to whip me up some jerk chicken too, so of course I ordered both in large. FYI, large can easily feed 3 people. 2 if you're really hungry. I also ordered a pineapple soda and sorrel drink - it's a cranberry like hibiscus drink, quite good, I would recommend at least a try.

Curry chicken had tender chicken and was well seasoned. The rice was a little bland but the curry made up for it.

Jerk chicken had crispy skin and was very tender and moist. The skin was a bit too spicy for me but I kept eating it anyway lol SO GOOD!

When paying I was given a complimentary order of mac and cheese, it was awesome.

All of my food came out to $34. Not too shabby seeing how it feeds an army and weighed...
