Gorgeous b&b, supreme location, with hostile and discriminatory staff. My husband, son, and myself stayed here for our family vacation to Asbury Park. We were immediately delighted by the decor of this hotel and the location could not be better. After our first night, we took to the second story patio to sit and eat breakfast (which was delicious and complimentary to the stay). While we were seated, a rather unpleasant looking older woman gave us literal dagger eyes as we sat and ate. My husband and I both noticed and just laughed it off as we went inside. As we were quite literally sitting, silently, eating our food (our son is 11 years old and exceptionally well behaved) we came to the conclusion that this woman did not like something about our appearances. We are slightly alternative looking, for lack of a better word, with some arm tattoos and I rock a nose ring (I also had on a Grateful Dead T-shirt and my husband was wearing a shirt we got from Salem, MA). We saw this woman again in the afternoon and same thing, face as if it were sucking on a lemon. A different woman from the front desk asked my son and I, “I’m trying to know the guests better! What room are you staying in?” while I was waiting for my husband to get ice from their cooler. After we told her, she didn’t ask any more questions “about us” which leads me to think she was inquiring to see if we were loitering or not. On our last night there, we again saw the sour lemon faced woman, who was telling a friend that she had, “ten new check-ins tomorrow.” I believe this woman is the manager if not the owner! My family was treated like circus freaks while we were just trying to enjoy a trip to the beach. Shocking we’re encountering this in 2024, but here we are. If you are in any way alternative I would...
Read moreGreat customer service by all including two ladies who checked us in and took good care of us. Yummy breakfast, and decent amenities (toiletries, coffee, wifi, AC, TV, snacks, refrigerator and areas to sit around and hang). There is a shared microwave which is always good to have if you are trying not to waste leftovers and plenty of great places to eat. Walkable to the ocean and board walk and in a very nice neighborhood with lovely historic buildings. Breakfast is a 5 start quality for the price for two people we paid so good for families who are these days looking for savings given how expensive food is. Restaurant staff was courteous and they served hot food which is great as they were not allowing guests to fill plates which leads to so much waste of food. Great decision so thank you to the owner for being mindful of avoiding waste. Restaurant looks over the ocean so it is nice and cool place to hangout. Historic charm and details.
Gave a 2 star to the room as we thought the room is facing the ocean and will have a good view but we had a partial view of the ocean only if we stood at the window that was behind our bed. Room was very very very small and it was hard to walk around so make sure you check the area specially if you are claustrophobic. It is quite dated but clean. No iron in the room but it looks like you can call that in. No closet but open hanging space. Comfortable bed and outside the room is little noisy at times if someone is walking outside which is expected given it is a historic renovation with no noise insulation. Real keys but looks like someone can open the door when you are not around as you can see the lock through so be mindful of valuable left in your room. No elevators so you have to lug...
