Incident at Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits
On July 6, 2024, at approximately 2:19 AM, Officer J. Walsh was stationed at an outside employment detail at Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits on 208 Main Street, Asbury Park, NJ. His assignment included addressing disorderly conduct and noise complaints in the area.
The incident began when Officer Walsh noticed an intoxicated female being assisted by friends at the corner of Cookman Avenue and Main Street. The group repeatedly refused first aid, stating the female was waiting for her mother. Shortly after, Officer Walsh observed Adriana Peruso, a white female dressed in all white, take a photo of the intoxicated woman while she was vomiting. He confronted Peruso, instructing her to delete the photo, but she denied taking it and grew agitated.
As bystanders began yelling at Peruso for her actions, she attempted to leave but then returned and kicked Alfonso Salemi in the hip. Officer Walsh immediately intervened, attempting to arrest Peruso for disorderly conduct (2C:33-2). Peruso resisted, pulling away and causing both herself and the officer to fall to the ground. Despite repeated commands, she refused to comply until finally being handcuffed.
During the struggle, Louise DiIulio, Peruso’s friend, jumped on Officer Walsh’s back to interfere. Officer Walsh pushed her off, and another officer, PO Breiner #244, placed DiIulio under arrest for obstructing justice (2C:29-1). Both women were transported to police headquarters without further incident.
Salemi, the man who was kicked, declined to press charges or seek medical attention and left the scene in an Uber.
Charges & Outcome:
Adriana Peruso: Charged with disorderly conduct (2C:33-2) and resisting arrest (2C:29-2), released on summons 1303-S-2024-000839.
Louise DiIulio: Charged with obstruction (2C:29-1), released on summons 1303-S-2024-000838.
The body-worn camera footage confirmed the events, and no use-of-force report was filed, as Peruso’s fall resulted from her own actions.

Read moreI’m visiting from Ireland so last week I figured I may hit up an Irish bar so I chose to go to this pub with some of my friends who are from New Jersey. Walking up to the pub I was holding hands with a gay friend of mine, I dropped his hand to give my ID and was let in. Then my gay friend went to the other bouncer and was told “You and your boyfriend aren’t allowed in”. This is after I was already allowed in. When asked “Why?” we were given absolutely zero response but the previous was just repeated. No one in our party was sloppy drunk, there was zero logical reason to deny anyone entry. Yet the two gay men in the group were, who for the record are not even dating which just further highlights this certain bouncer’s ignorance.
The same bouncer then took a swing from a water bottle and spat it on the street in our direction. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and all it did was lose our business and the business of extended friends who we have told extensively to avoid this pub. Reading other reviews its clear the bouncers here are on some crazy power trip and are clearly overly compensating for something. Read how they also denied entry to a woman’s disabled son on the basis that he was disabled. You guys are screaming for a lawsuit and I can’t wait for you to cross the wrong person and they take you to the cleaners.
If management had any sense they’d get rid of or teach their current bouncers sensitivity training, or you know, just tell them not to be bigots. As a foreigner visiting America its put a sour taste in my mouth as regards American attitude. Should be ashamed to call yourself an Irish pub as the Ireland I know and am a part of is a very open and tolerant...
Read moreJust left this place with my friends for a casual drink. As we were walking out the door to leave the bar, a bouncer violently grabbed one of them from behind. He wrapped his arms around her and screamed at her to move. As he did this, he shook her and swung her back and forth. I didn’t even think it was an employee at first, rather some drunken creep assaulting her - that’s how rough and inappropriate he was being. It wasn’t even a matter of him grabbing her quickly to move her out of the way or pushing her, he restrained her to his body and actually rocked her back and forth roughly for a solid ten seconds at least. I yelled at him to let her go, trying to pull her away from him and he REFUSED, continuing to scream at us. My friend, at this point hysterical and afraid, begged a nearby female employee to please help her. This girl replied, “he’s allowed to do that” and did nothing. The man was well over six feet tall, had dark hair and a beard; the woman was short and stout with glasses. I DEMAND disciplinary action at the very least for these two employees, if not for them to be fired. They were on staff Thanksgiving Eve approximately 1:00 am. Otherwise we will be contacting the authorities. A bouncer has no legal right to push, grab or incite violence unless someone is first being violent themselves or needs to be kicked out - tell that to the stout one. We were four girls simply walking out the door to leave. And where is the sense in stopping to restrain and embrace a small framed woman against your body and swing her if you supposedly want her to move and are in such a hurry to get past her? This was an act of violence, intimidation...
