This was just the escape from NYC that we needed. We love Ocean Grove and this visit was outstanding, because we stayed at this stunningly renovated, fully modern, perfectly located place. We had previously stayed at another of the well-known hotels in OG, but I think is now our new "home" when we go there. ||Our room was small and didn't have a great view, but honestly, we didn't pay for the best room in the house so we were not surprised by that. Howver, the bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is beautiful and spa-like, and it was just a lovely place to unwind after a day out enjoying the area. The setup for cords and charging was great - its time every hotel, everywhere, did this kind of thing. I am sure there are rooms with better views - I know there are rooms with their own outdoor space - but for our purposes, we were fine with our king room. When we wanted fresh air we sat on the quiet porch which was delightful. || ALL of the folks at the front desk and all the other staff members were lovely, acccomodating and helpful. (This was evident even when booking our room over the phone). We were able to check in before 4 pm which totally helped us, and they allowed us a late checkout which worked so well for us and really allowed us a leisurely departure, thus not ruining how completely relaxed we felt!|| One thing to know is that, despite the renovation, it is ultimately after all, an over 100 year old house - this means that noise really carries. Some very unaware guests staying near us were pretty loud quite early in the morning - I don't think people realize how their voices carry, and I am only sharing this so that if you go and stay there, you remember to be considerate and keep your voice down during early mornings and late nights! This is not the kind of thing one should complain about to the hotel staff; but its the kind of thing that they should perhaps make guests aware of when they check in, so they can be mindful. Maybe even some signs in the hallways or a little card in the room as a friendly reminder. I also wish they had a breakfast service in the morning - they do have pastries but a little more would be helpful. Not everyone can have a carb like that first thing in the AM! (However my daily chocolate croissant was yummy). We do not drink coffee but there is lovely coffee set up in the rooms which I am sure coffee lovers enjoy. ||The location is perfect, in the heart of OG by the tents (which fascinated us). Five minute walk to Main Avenue, Days Ice Cream, (the hot nightspot in Ocean Grove!) and a two minute walk to the beach. It is truly an idyllic place that takes you back in time, but when you stay at the Albatross, you get the best of old world charm and modern amenities. They even installed an elevator - which to me as someone with some minor mobility issues, was so helpful and made me a loss stressed than having to constantly schlep up and down stairs. It is a deal breaker for me now, and is one of the main reasons I would choose Albatross over the place we formerly stayed (also a lovely place to be sure.)||We cannot wait to go back. We hope the hotel continues to thrive and becomes an anchor in the community. However we dont want it to become too popular so we can still...

The new ownership of the 1881 Albatross Hotel (sister to the Majestic Hotel) in Ocean Grove goes to great lengths to make your stay comfortable in an old eclectic shore hotel which has been touched up (awaiting a major 18 month renovation beginning November 2023) after getting worn for several years. The rebirth of the Albatross and touch up on the great room/lobby, freshly painted rooms, new mattresses/pillows, rugs, AC window units, made it a great stay for us and has become another gem for Ocean Grove and nearby Asbury Park. The building is 130+ years old and even though it is a three floor walk up, they will be adding an elevator and baths to all rooms when they close for the renovation. Currently, some rooms have a shared bathroom and shower. Our room was two twins (my daughter and I) and shared shower/bathroom across the hall. We never had to wait to use them, they were maintained and very clean. Our room had a sink and mirror. AC unit, ceiling fan and comfortable beds. Bring an extension cord as you may not have a plug near your bed if you are charging hour device and using it as a clock. The porches at the Albatross are so inviting and welcoming, and have a great view and gives opportunity to meet the other wonderful people who work there and stay there. Parking is free and in the street and we didn’t have any issue finding something a very short walk from the building. The Albatross offers discount beach passes, had some bikes we could use, a snack station with coffee, water and tea, some mini fridges by the snack bar to keep some things cold, and a continental breakfast with yogurt, fruit, and pastries. The Albatross is centrally located and about a 10 minute walk to Asbury by boardwalk or bridge. I absolutely fell in love with this charming old building, it’s location and the people who manage it. It was home away from home. As it awaits its renonvation, the new owners make it affordable, welcoming and comfortable. Thank you To the staff: Trudy, Kirk, Dominic (dad Roger), Renee, (fellow with a beard and can’t remember his name). You all made our stay wonderful and memorable. Can’t wait to see the next phase of the Albatross completed! Before November 2023, if you have the chance, stay at this old school eclectic shore hotel before it’s renovation and then comeback after it’s transformation. Very excited for The Albatross and it’s new ownership/management! Linda and...

This post is from Mark and Jennifer. We stayed the weekend of July 15th and the 16th. So if you do go and stay; please tell them Mark and Jennifer sent you! Where do I begin? This classic, old ,historical hotel and it's perfect location made our first time at Ocean Grove a time we will never forget. Thank you to Bill the genuine, kind and accommodating owner who made our stay feel like we were at home! This was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast and we had Room 15 which came with it's own private bath. The room was clean and quaint, the bed was very comfortable. The ac kept us cooler than you could want or need and the private bath was small and cozy and clean! The atmosphere from the moment you walk in ; truly makes you feel like you just walked back in time. Not like a place that was just (simply) redone to make it look that way! Noooo! You feel like you just walked in to the Albatross as it was in her earliest days. Accept for a few modern conveniences of course :-) We were there for a concert to be held at the Great Auditorium and the Albatross was just steps away across the great lawn that runs from the Great Auditorium right down to the Ocean Pavilion. Our view of the ocean was amazing from the front second floor deck and allowed us to just relax after our day at the beach. The coffee was fresh and ready by 7am each morning along with a very friendly continental breakfast of varied options. Coffee on the front porch was our favorite. It allowed a chance to sit and chat with the truly friendly owner and his very attentive staff. We wanted for nothing in our stay. If you are looking for a polished, spit shine place; this is not it. But if you want the TRUE experience of stepping back in time and staying in a very friendly, comfortable place of great history; then the Albatross is YOUR PLACE to stay in Ocean Grove. We have already planned our next trip in October and can not wait to get back to see the new and amazing friends we made at The...

We just had a wonderful family stay at Hotel Albatross and I truly cannot recommend it more. The property is immaculately designed with exceptional attention to interiors and materials. It feels like stepping into a luxury boutique Auberge property, or even a Four Seasons , the charm reminded me of Four Seasons Mexico City in many ways. It has that rare combination of old world character with modern, tasteful execution. The deck is beautiful, the staff is warm and attentive, and everything is kept spotless. The location couldn’t be better, right by the beach. Honestly, if you’ve stayed in other East Coast resorts, rentals, or Jersey Shore properties, you’ll know how rare this is. Many are gross, dated or poorly maintained ,Hotel Albatross is in an entirely different league. It sets a new standard and could easily compete with the very best internationally. The owners, architects, interior designers, and staff deserve to be honored and celebrated for bringing such vision and excellence to New Jersey. That said, a few things are worth keeping in mind for future travelers: • This is not a Florida style full-service resort. Think more of a high end, charming inn where you’ll enjoy independence alongside exceptional surroundings. • The rooms are stunning but not huge, plan accordingly if you’re traveling with a family. • A small tip: use the back elevator (Level 1) when bringing in luggage, it’s much easier than carrying bags up the stairs. • The thermostat is a little too bright at night and positioned directly in front of the bed, something light sensitive sleepers may want to note. Overall, I would rate it 10/10 without hesitation. More than just a place to stay, it’s proof that with vision and care, the Jersey Shore can rival the best anywhere in the world. Hotel Albatross has set the standard.
