Located in the corner of a strip mall, I was worried when I walked in at 1145 and very few people were at tables. Soon after noon, party after party walked in and by the time I left, most of the 11 booths and 9 tables were full, which is always a good sign.
Not a fancy looking place, it serves the purpose of give 'em quick food and move 'em out.
Everything Under the Bun does do lunch specials - chicken livers, pork chops and roast beef was among those served the day I went - but the focus here are dogs, burgers and other sandwiches.
Now, you can get normal burgers and dogs, but they do offer some items with a twist. Think Elvis' peanut butter, honey and banana on a burger or hot dog (The King), or a nice greasy spoon breakfast on both (Jam It Up), to name a couple.
For me, since they served Nathan's dogs - it's hard to ruin Nathan's - thought I'd go that route and try something cheaply. Two dogs for me: your basic kraut and mustard dogs - kraut lightly charred on the griddle is so awesome - and (don't judge me) a Jam It Up.
Yeah, it seems like what you might get if you let your 7-year-old son come up with a new idea for a hot dog, but I gotta tell you, this works: lightly toasted bun, a spread of grape jelly, fresh-cooked bacon, weiner, then on top a scrambled egg and a layer of American cheese (Not bad, I'd ask for cheddar next time). It really does have the feel of a quick breakfast all mixed together. I'd do it again.
Or I'd...
Read moreThis establishment has really gone downhill in recent times. I used to love going here, I adored the food, the staff, the environment, it was one of my favorite places to go in the whole city. Months ago I would’ve been leaving a 5 star review like everyone else, but I’ve had nothing but bad experiences since. Food has been poor, undercooked, unsanitary, or I’ve been given food I didn’t even order. Service has been lackluster, the staff don’t really seem to care, I’ve found hairs in my food multiple times and been told “So?” when I brought it up. I’ve had servers be short and rude with me, rolling their eyes or passing snide and passive aggressive comments under their breath. I really wanted to give it another chance but the last time I went there was a roach skittering under my table, which is both disgusting and disgraceful. I’ve never seen an establishment fall this fast. I’m never going back here again and anyone wondering if this place is worth the money should keep looking, whatever good things you’ve heard are just not the...
Read moreI will be completely honest - I know not to judge a restaurant by the outside or location. Some of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at have been sketch looking as heck. This is one of those places. It's in a strip mall that you can tell at one time was really nice, but like all strip malls, it has kind of hit its peak and is now just meh. However - However, friend, what isn't meh or sketch is the food.
The food was straight up on point. I got the New York dog, add grilled onions. As they say in NYC, "This is incredible!" Not too much of anything and the onion rings were perfect. Not mushy. Not cold, not those weird way too much breading and just a whiff of onions. They were great. My youngest gremlin got a "mini" cheese burger and fries. There was nothing mini about it. It was a burger for a full, grown up adult. His fries were so freaking good!!!! Hot, fresh, and not overcooked.
I will definitely be back but the next time, I'm bringing the spousal unit and letting him give a review on the chicken livers. 10/10...
