Flying Pig Food & Spirits — Restaurant in Asheboro

I have only heard good reviews of The Flying Pig. So I thought I would give it a try for lunch. It was awful. It took just shy of 45 minutes for my fish sandwich to arrive. When it did come, the bun was burned. And not just burned; it was charred black on the inside. I scraped off the burn and cut through the crispy dark brown bun only to find that my fish was raw on the inside. This was not tuna. It was flounder. It was completely uncooked. I also ordered the homemade chips to go with my sandwich. Over half of them were also completely uncooked. It was as if they dropped them in the oil, counted to five, and then took them out and put them directly in my basket of food. There was wet oil dripping all over them. Absolutely none of my meal was edible. I was with two other people who ordered the same fish sandwich and theirs were okay except for the bun. One was also burned, but not as bad as mine.

A lady came out and apologized after I sent my food back. She asked me if I would like anything else and I said no. We had already been there almost an hour. She said they were busy, but that was no excuse and she didn't know what the cooks were thinking. She comped our meal as she should have and then brought out two desserts. That was very nice of her, but my appetite and attitude was shot after my experience there.

I know that restaurants have their good days and bad days and I have only heard good things about the Pig. I am not a resident of Asheboro so this will not be hard to do, but I will never go there again. There are some places that leave a bad taste in your mouth and this one beat that. First of all, let me clarify the reason I gave 2 stars. The food is fantastic!!! The service was not as so. The waitress must've had trouble hearing me, as she was yelling from the other side of the table as TVs were going and there were other customers talking too. She misheard me when I said "I'd like the veggie pizza, but I only want spinach, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and pepperoni on my pizza. I also would like red sauce, not the olive oil based sauce." my pizza came with everything that comes on the veggie pizza that's on the menu instead (olives and green peppers), which was not what I stated i wanted on it. She did not walk to my side of the table to clarify, so i thought she heard me and understood. It took over an hour for us to get our food (yeah we timed it cuz we realized it was taking a while). She brought my drink with ice, when I specifically asked for no ice as well. Overall, the food was amazing and yes, I will be coming back for the delicious pizza, oysters and nachos, however I do not want the same server. Furthermore, when I asked her about the toppings, she did not apologize or offer to fix the pizza, she argued with me about what I said and walked away. Had high hopes as it showed good Google reviews and the menu looked good. When we got there place was a little crowded but not too bad. Hostess was very nice and cleared a table for us. Waitress came and got our drinks we ordered appetizers and food. That's where everything started to go south. Waitresses seem to be a bit confused and disoriented watching them go around the restaurant. Another waitress grabbed our appetizers and took them to another table. Took them a while to figure it out but they realized and went and got us a fresh batch of appetizers. The fried pickles were hot and on point, very tasty. Took a bit to get our food. Upon receiving our food most of it was cold, fries especially. I personally got the "Slap your mama" fish dog, which was their spin on a fish taco. Bun was a little hard, dish has potential had it been left on a tortilla. Wife and mother got BBQ sandwich. Cold, taste wise run of the mill. I feel like when the confusion set in about the appetizers, our food order had been put in and our food have been sitting in the window for quite some time which would explain why our food was cold. All in all, I would like to go back. I feel like this might have been a fluke as I feel this place has a great potential has a good atmosphere and friendly faces.
