Forestry camp has been on my restaurant list for a while now! So happy we finally got a chance to enjoy it. We happened to go the day before their Burnpile beer festival, so their normal parking situation wasn't available, but there were multiple options at businesses nearby so it wasn't really a big deal. We ate early so walked right in and up to the bar to order. The bartender had good suggestions for both beer and wine, as well as food. The wings with gochugang sauce were a perfectly spicy, and the dressing on the BLT salad was a perfect creaminess but not too heavy. We also had a burger and fries and the camp sauce was a great addition to the fries for dipping! The atmosphere is great, set in a restored conservation corps building, with tons of seating upstairs (smaller tables and some couches, intimate feeling), downstairs (large communal tables, beer hall feeling) and covered picnic tables, and an upstairs patio as outdoor seating options. There were quite a few other items on the menu that I want to come back and try. Service was helpful and friendly!

If you love history and beer please treat yourselves to their beer and brewery tour. Worth every moment. Sarah is an amazing tour guide and vastly knowledgeable about all things beer and Burial. And she knows the Asheville beer scene and history too! The food was amazing as much as their plethora of 🍻 beers on tap. They are all so interested in making sure you get the beers that suit you palette and experience. We’ve been to hundreds of craft breweries and Burial definitely eclipsed most and lands on my top 10 list. Their exponential growth is a testament to their quality and selection. Oh and they know how to celebrate milestones. If you are lucky enough to land in town on one of their anniversaries or celebrations you won’t be disappointed. This is a great opportunity to gather your friends and family and make the pilgrimage to Asheville and make sure Burial is top of your list.

Forestry Camp is my favorite brewery/restaurant in town, period! As a local, it is important to me to be able to enjoy all that Asheville offers and when it comes to breweries, sometimes the Burial South Slope location is slammed (weekends), so I head to the ‘off the beaten path’ Forestry Camp for a very different vibe. You feel like you’re stepping back in time upon entering the taproom doors, because in fact, you are. The buildings that Forestry Camp occupies were part of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) barracks/equipment depots from the 1930s. The beer is top notch with lots of Burial beers as well as collaborations with the best breweries in America and the food is gastropub focused on fresh, local ingredients and creativity. Check it out and it may become your *go to* place in town as well.

If I could I would give this restaurant a ZERO RATE!! So I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone look for good customer service or good quality food! We ate at this restaurant on Valentine’s Day, after we called that morning and confirmed that they were able to accommodate us at their heated out door seating area. When we came into the place we were told that we had to order our food at the bar and pay which included a tip before we could be seated. We also were handed our own plates and drinks that we had to carry outdoors without any help. At first I thought this was the standard way they ran the restaurant because of Covid but we found out later that their were guest eating upstairs at the restaurant who were waited on like regular guests. I think it was very unprofessional and lazy of the workers not to bring these things to the table outside because I had heels on and the ground was very moist because it was raining that day. Where is gets worst at is the area at which they had us and three other couples seated at. We were outside in a tent that was completely open so the heat that they claimed was on was never felt. I walked back into the restaurant twice to ask our waiter if they could turn up the heat because it was freezing cold. I was told by the manager Emily who was also our waiter that the heat was turned up already. I could tell the manager didn’t care that we were cold by the comments that she made when she came outside to our table. After I told the manager that myself and the other people in the tent couldn’t didn’t feel the heat and she stated “well you guys are sitting outside”. This was said in front of me and the other guests in a demeaning manner. When I originally booked the restaurant I wasn’t aware the outdoor seating wasn’t actually going to be warm inside. I explained to Emily that we never expected to be outdoors were we couldn’t feel the heat. We have been to numerous outdoor places where the heat was able to be felt to keep the guest comfortable. Emily keep lying and saying the heat (which we could view) was at the highest she could put it but in reality she didn’t want to turn it up. We sat outside for exactly one hour before we receive our main meals which was ridiculous in my eyes. Our waiter/manager didn’t offer us any condiments for our food, we didn’t even have salt or paper at the tables (picnic tables)that we were sitting on and our food was over $150 for two people. After we received our main meal we left the restaurant because we were completely disgusted with the staff and the food was completely nasty! The restaurant didn’t even have the Courtesy to offer us water. I called back a week later to speak with a manager to explain our experience there and evened asked to speak with the manager. The same person who waited on us became very hostile and confrontational. After speaking with her I requested to speak with a supervisor. She stated her supervisor (Luke) would give me a call that Thursday or Friday. Today is Sunday and I have yet to receive a call from the restaurant. I never intended to leave a review I just wanted the supervisor to know what we experienced but I think at this point I have no other option but to warn people not to come to...

Normally I do not write reviews, but when there is an ongoing experience like the one I have had with this particular server, it needs to be raised to others' awareness.

Firstly, I have autism and adhd and trauma. I know it is not common to start out a review in this way but I think it is a helpful reminder that not all disabilities are visible and I really hope that the server that i am talking about reads this personally: YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT ANOTHER IS HOLDING...and IT IS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU, SO JUST BE KIND. You are also abusing your power in the role you are playing with your guests. AND THATS TOXIC, TRAUMATIC, AND NOT COOL. And if someone is triggered by you or in front of you, perhaps you can do some soul searching around what you are bringing the to table with your baggage and how that is not about the person in front of you either, so don't take it out on them.

Secondly, I have read many of the lower star reviews and it seems like a majority of them are ALL talking about this same server that is leading me to leave a 2 star review at one of my favorite spots in town...THAT I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING LONGER THAN THIS B HAS EVEN WORKED THERE.

thirdly, this servers service is despicable, disrespectful, if not offensive and discriminatory. After my first experience with her, I tried giving feedback to a friendly lovely waitress that I do love, who responded as if this was NOT new news and knew exactly who I was talking about. This server is being paid a livable wage and getting tipped for SERVING THE CUSTOMERS at the establishment that she works for. She does not own the place-to my knowledge and if she did, I would hope that she would have better business sense than to alienate all of her customers. She literally serves as a gatekeeper for Forestry Camp and has become so entirely toxic that after experiences with her I literally do everything I can to avoid her. I didn't frequent the place for a while after the worst encounter with her. But still she is there and is meannnnn.

lastly, I would just love to know what Forestry Camp is doing about this. As much as I love this place, I cannot allow myself to condone allowing such disrespect to so many humans and not taking action. I like to think that Forestry Camp is better than this and has better committed action to values, but I do not see it in action with this server and how she continues to be SO FREAKIN RUDE to people who are just a fan of the place she works and trying to give them...

I really love coming here for beer. Burial beer is some of the best in the city, and this location truly does have a great atmosphere and tons of beer choices, ranging from standard lagers and IPAs to the more unusual and experimental.

However, after hearing such great things about the food, we decided to try their food options recently and we’re pretty disappointed. When you say you offer a veggie smash burger, I don’t expect a mediocre store-bought veggie burger on a cold bun with a mealy tomato, cheese, and lettuce. For $16. My friend had a fried chicken sandwich which looked great. It’s always so disappointing when so little thought and care goes into vegetarian options when they can be SO much better. At least adjust the price if you’re going to make it significantly worse than the non-veg options. Asheville is such a vegetarian-friendly city and it’s such a letdown when places clearly don’t care about offering non-meat items.

The fries were fine but nothing to write home about.

Service is friendly, and as I said, beer is always top-notch, but I’ll stick to the drinks next time and grab...
