We have been coming to the harbor inn all my life. It reminds me of my dearly departed Grandmother. Fisherman's quarters and then the harbor inn became her favorites to treat us growing up.
We don't get out as much as once did. We cook often & the world's expensive and such. Despite all that, it's a really great and heartwarming thing to visit the place you always remembered, and its exactly like you always remembered. To this day they have the only hushpuppies I will ever enjoy. As much as we would all love to get every option for the combos like broiled and fried.... it just leaves more options to rotate if you're tired of the ordinary. I however could never grow tired of scallops, oysters, and baby shrimp.
I know we live in a mountain town & I realize good food joints are a dime a dozen. It can be difficult to keep a consistent seafood restaurant in your rotation, but this place has always been in ours. We had a few combos on our most recent visit. As always, everyone got baby shrimp! A given. Along with fried oysters which are always a treasure & fried chicken. I know what you're thinking. What kind of sicko gets fried bird at a fish house? Well... i gotta say... that was some great fried chicken. Light breading that doesn't act as a ploy to distract you from a lack of chicken. Flavorful and nowhere close to dry all the way through. I can't say enough good about our experience for the last 9 birthdays, mothers days, fathers day. Etc.
I'll wrap this up by talking about our server/food-runner/host? Im not sure what his position is called there, other than being your MVP. Ellison i believe is his name. An outstanding individual. Im often more social than I should be, but Ellison was awesome and friendly to us. One of those moments where you exchange supportive quotes about keeping a good mindset and ruling the dinner-rush with a smile. I spent many years in front of house & would have been proud to have Ellison on my team. Give that guy a raise. A decent or empathetic individual should always tip. Even for a pick-up. Its people like him that don't have to go above and beyond. Ellison doesn't fake his customer-service. That's just who he is. Hope he's our guy every time!
Thank you all! Oqver there at the Harbor for every day you clock-in. THANK YOU for not walking off the line when the rush was too much. Thank you for not no-call no-showing because your last table yesterday stiffed you on the tip for the last time. Thank you dishwashers for chewing through those soap suds and just getting lost in the work. Thank you openers for not pressing snooze more than once. Thank you closers for being the night-fliers we need in this industry. Thank you managers who somehow manage to balance a schedule for your current employees even when your new-hire never showed for their first expected shift. Even if it meant you had to do it.
Whatever it is that you're doing in life reader of this review, thank you for doing it. Keep doing it. Keep chewing through the chaos. Keep trying and keep doing. You can make a difference every day. Just like preparing a familiar meal on a parents birthday as delicious as it was 10 years ago. Just like leaving an extra tip because your server laughed at your joke or caught your...
Read moreWe have been going to this restaurant since 2010 and it has been a family favorite for 12 years now. My dad past away 2 years ago and this was one of his favorites, so of course we will go on Father’s Day. We had extremely poor service we had gotten our food and waited over 20 minutes for the sauces we asked for, we ended up going up to the counter and telling them, so the manager (who has worked there for 26 years) came to our table and waited on us. By the time we started eating our food it was cold, I said something and all she said was “I’m sorry” never offered us to heat it up or to get us fresh food, nothing!!! Now we go to pay I hand her my card (no discount for poor service) ok no problem didn’t even complain about that. The manager gives us our receipt I fill it out with a tip I might add!! We go to get up from the table and my fiancé informs me we didn’t get our card back. At this point we are searching everywhere, we also brought it to their attention, the manager than try’s to say she gave it back and try’s to go through our personal items. I told her to stop and that we have already gone through everything, at this point everyone is staring at us and the manager and owner(which found out he was the owner later on) was accusing us of placing it somewhere else than try’s to make us leave without my card!! I refused to leave until they found it after 30 mins another worker who was not even involved found my card under the register at the front counter which wasn’t the register that she used!!! I than told the manager it was found and I said something about how she obviously didn’t give it back to us and that the way she handled the situation was extremely embarrassing, she rolled her eyes and said “Well at least they found it.” I walked out because I have really bad anxiety issue and I was shaking so bad and about to have a panic attack!!! My sister ended up talking to the owner and he will be refunding our money, but the idea of poor service and an embarrassing situation due to the manager, My family and I will never be going back to this restaurant!! If you do go just make sure they don’t try and steal your cards and accuse...
Read moreReceived this for $18.50 per plate from Harbor inn restaurant on Brevard Rd. This was the worst food I have ever received there. The shrimp snd scallops were like rubber. I called harbor inn this morning to tell them the food was awful, we also had ordered grilled chicken, catfish. All were awful. They were all to go. When we got to the restaurant thet did not have it ready and we had to reorder and wait 39 minutes. The woman who answered the phone said she had to call the owner, she called me back and said she would send me a gift card. Why would I want a gift card after food like this, I asked to be refunded. She berated over the phone, telling me to bring the food back to her so they could inspect it??? I told her I had these pictures, but she said she wanted the food back. I told her I lived in Black Mountain, she said she did too and it's only a 15 minute drive, yeah right. The only reason I ordered there is the food used to be good and I was on my way home from toys r us. I will never eat there again and I will tell everyone I know not too either. She also said that after a $10,000 day I was the only one complaining and I know that was a lie, because people all around me were complaining about the service, not getting their food. They gave us a slice of German Chocolate cake for having to wait, and that was even old and dried out. DO NOT...
