Before I say anything, this is what I look for in a good coffee shop: comfortable seating, decent size space, warm energy, friendly staff, good food, and good coffee. My cherry on top is an alternative atmosphere, which I'll take over a lot of the other things I listed. At High Five, the coffee and lighting are ok. The interior design is traditional. The amount of seating is ok for a very small cafe. The problems for me are as follows: the space - small and crowded, the food - not really that good, the staff - not very friendly (they're not rude or cliche, they're just look at you with no facial expression, take your order, and go to the next person), and the other customers - everyone is really tense, which you usually don't find in Asheville. I got that "corporate America, competition, I must succeed at all cost" vibe. I LOVE coffee shops and I've visited High Five 3 times since I moved here 2 years ago because it's by my house and I really want to love it , but I don't. That's me though. I recommend it for people who like good coffee, don't want to hang out very long, and like a professional,...
Read moreVisiting for the first time at the moment. Came in to do 1 hour of work. The decor is bland and uninteresting and the lighting makes the space quite dark. Prices are high, especially as there are other cafes nearby that have the same products for less. I saw exactly the same product in a nearby cafe this morning for 50% less. The table I'm sitting at is sticky so either hasn't been cleaned in a while or has been cleaned with a dirty cloth. Weirdest thing is the WiFi. I asked if they have WiFi. The staff member said I can't use it for the first two hours. If I could, I'd use it for an hour and then leave, freeing up a table for someone else, but I think they're either expecting me to buy food and drinks for two hours until I can use it or not use a table at all and leave right away. When I sat down, I discovered I can actually connect to the WiFi right away. Now it's weird because the staff member can see me. Do I get my laptop out and start working, going against what she told me, or not? All very unpleasant. With better options nearby, I don't see a reason to...
Read moreWe came here because this Cafe allows digs inside and we were not disappointed. It's a bit sway from the center of Asheville life so it was pretty quiet on Sunday morning. The place is small and doesn't have a lot of seats; it was a couple of tables, some high tops, and some weird but fascinating seats that it looks like you are supposed to seat with your legs crossed (??? Need to see them to understand what I'm talking about!). The baristas were nice and professional and the service was fast. The coffee they use is very different from the one you may find elsewhere but it was good and the cappuccino was delicious with a perfect foamed milk that lasted till the last sip (I chose whole milk). The ham and egg biscuit was good and they managed to make it look gourmet even if it's such a simple dish. The gluten free/vegetarian muffin was delicious and filling. I was really happy with this place and might come back if we are...
