This was not a easy one to review. I was searching for this place as I had wanted to go here when they first open and then forgot where it was. I had my friend take me there. I like the atmosphere of the dimly lit area. There was an exceptance of LGBTQ people and men walking around in high heels and fishnets, that doesn't bother me. The selection of bourbon was very nice and the cabinets that they were stored in. They is were the high points stopped sadly. Once you settle in and sit at the bar I was greeted by a unwelcomeing tone from the person from the bar. I tried to be more welcoming than the bartender maybe make his mood better. I told him I wanted a minute to take in the nice selection of bourbon. He stormed off and came back later. I told him I was interested in an old fashioned. I judge a place on how they make them so I asked him make one how he likes. He told me that they had different styles and I needed to choose. How he was just seemed annoyed. There was one on the menu so I said to just make that one. I asked if I could pick the bourbon. I asked how much for CYPB he said $200+. I asked if it was cheaper if I got it neat. Said it was $200 a shoot. I asked about a few other bourbons and all way over priced. I got my old fashion and it was not well made. It was one of the few drinks I never finished. I asked about a bottle of rock hill farms since it was about empty. I asked if I bought the rest of what was in there if I could keep the bottle. He asked why would I want to do that. And then said the owner like to throw them away, what lol! My wife did not care for her drink either and I agree it was not that great. A well made drink is a mix of science and art. For a place that I read about as the best in Asheville it is not from what I seen. There are many better places in Asheville
Positives: Excepting atmosphere One of the best bourbon selections I have seen.
Negatives: Rude bartender Don't know how to make drinks Over priced Bartender not...

When we first walked into this self-proclaimed “Edgar Allan Poe-themed bar,” we were brimming with excitement, ready to be whisked away by the dark, moody vibes of a literary legend. Little did we know, we were actually stepping into a pretentious purgatory.
The bartender, channeling his inner gothic gatekeeper, sauntered over—not with a friendly greeting or even a sinister “Nevermore”—but with a look of disdain that could rival the Raven itself. Without uttering a single word, he turned a sign toward us with all the theatrical flair of a community theater Hamlet. It read, in the most passive-aggressive of fonts: “Please wait to be seated.” Ah, yes. Nothing says “Welcome!” quite like being shushed by a sign.
We stood there, blinking, wondering if this was part of some experimental Poe-themed performance art. Alas, no. It was just pretentiousness, served neat, with a twist of rudeness. At that moment, we knew we had to flee—lest we be buried alive by the sheer weight of the ego in the room. We walked away, but not without quoting our own version of “The Tell-Tale Heart”: “This place is DEAD to us.”
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a bar with the warmth of a mausoleum and a bartender who takes himself more seriously than a Poe dissertation, this is your place. Otherwise, just say,...
Read moreSo me and a friend of mine were in town on a work trip looking for a cool local place to have a drink. From a recommendation from our hotel we found “The Crow and Quill”. The selection is amazing. The lady that served us was so lovely. We engaged is some conversation that had religious and political moments at the bar. I consider myself a moderate Christian patriot. I lean conservative but I’m certainly not far right nor am I far left. I see fault on both sides but I am very tolerant of an opinion other than mine. After what I considered wonderful debate we were asked to leave by the owner for our slightly but highly tolerant conservative views. I thought it was very disrespectful actions brought on by a very respectful conversation. I feel it was very embarrassing and totally unnecessary. I hesitate to condemn this place because it is so wonderfully different but be warned. If you have different views other than progressive far left keep them silent. The owner has no tolerance for any belief other than his own. It’s an unfortunate thing. He doesn’t even realize what he fights against is the very thing...
