I think it was without a doubt, one of the best meals I've had at Ashtabula Harbour. The soft lighting gave a nice warm atmosphere as we walked in from the cold snowy night. We were very warmly greeted, and because it was our first time there our waitress took her time explaining things to us. We were told we could go downstairs to look at the choice of wines but we just chose the Cabernet Sauvignon house wine after we were offered a taste. It was a relaxed evening. We shared two appetisers between the Five of us to help pass the time because meals are prepared from scratch so we had time to sip and chat which seemed very European. Between the Five of us we had a good sampling of the different courses offered. Everyone was very satisfied with their choices. The meal was a bit pricy but not the kind of 'nothing on the plate' pricy because the plates were well stocked with good produce. Even the house salad which came with the meal was very fresh, crisp and delicious. My brother who never eats salad finished every leaf and believe me, that's saying something. I was one of the only ones to finish and not need a box so also the only one to not order dessert. I was regrettably much too full but I of course tasted what each of the others got and all those desserts were amazing. I don't really know how it is we'd never been there but I'm sure we'll be going back. It's about a year since this last review. I'm back in the States for a while and my sister and I decided to come back for a meal. Last year we had a table upstairs and this year we were seated downstairs where they sell wines and a variety of other things. We both chose the roast beef carrots and mashed potatoes as the main dish but we started with dipping olive oil and delicious bread. My sister who is a quilter chose a wine with a name about quilting. I decided to have a glass of it too after tasting it. A very nice blend of a Zinfandel and a couple other reds. We followed the meal by sharing a delicious cake my sister ordered while I browsed through the wines. I chose a beautiful $10 German Riesling to bring home. I've now been here twice and again had one of my best meals since I've been back in the area. I totally recommend...
Read moreWe scheduled a reservations for six people Saturday, January 27th through the website a couple weeks prior and we received two separate confirmation emails that we were confirmed for our reservation at 7pm. We showed up to the restaurant about 40 minutes early figuring we could get a drink at the bar before dinner and we were told by the staff that we don’t even have a reservation because they didn’t call us back to confirm the appointment. Number one… if you don’t take online reservation through the link on your website then take it off the website… They made the decision to try and accommodate us by setting our group up downstairs however, honestly this was the worst business decision they could have made… it was 2 hours and 15 minutes before getting our dinners. We were told that our dinners were being plated two times and after 40 minutes I finally went up and told them we are done and leaving. While talking to the staff they hurried and brought out one dinner and said the balance of dinners will be out within 5 minutes. They also said based on your experience and the issues we will talk to owner/chef about giving us a discount… well NO discount was given. In addition, the waitress tried to apologize and told us the owner/chef was going to come talk to us… well that didn’t happen either. Honestly, if the owner/chef doesn’t care enough to give us a discount or even come down the stairs and have a discussion, then I will not be returning to his or her restaurant in the future. Terrible customer service has led to a sad day for your restaurant and as a professional who frequently chooses fine dining, I will not be recommending this restaurant to any of my friends, family...
Read moreThis place was amazing! Walked in by complete happenstance, saw it from the street and decided to give it a chance. The staff was welcoming, the ambiance was warm and inviting, looked sleek in the middle of small town Ashtabula, OH. The owner herself helped us choose the wine and the food options we chisel from the menu were absolutely delectable. Not what I expected to find in a small place like that in the middle of nowhere. Everything on the menu was well thought out, sophisticated and delicious. I tried the beet salad followed by the baked pastry dish which was made by hand and baked fresh! Melty chhesy goodness on the inside, crispy fluffy perfection on the outside! My husband ordered the meatballs pasta dish which came with 2 giant meatballs. He said they were soft and tender and the pasta was cooked just to all denote, not a minute longer or shorter. We would have ordered dessert (which we saw others get and looked so good) but there was just no room left in our bellys. In retrospect, I wishing had finished off with an espresso. We saw a waiter bringing out 2 cups for another couple and they smelled and looked like the perfect ending. All in all, a wonderful place to just try some new wines or to sit down to dinner. Several people walked in while we were there and they sounded like they visit regularly and we can see why! We will visit again if we are ever...
