Here's a review for a well-known local Italian deli:
5 out of 5 stars āļø
Tucked away in the heart of downtown Astoria, this Italian deli is a hidden gem that's a must-visit for any sandwich lover or Italian food enthusiast! The moment you step inside Gaetano's Market and Deli, you're transported to the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and aromas of Italy.
Their deli sandwiches are expertly crafted with love and care, using only the freshest ingredients and meats. From classic subs to more adventurous options, like the Caprese panini, every bite is a flavor explosion that will leave you wanting more. And don't even get me started on the Italian goods - from artisanal pastas, homemade sauces and in-house made āTiramisuā. You will feel like you're shopping in the Tuscan countryside!
The service is warm and welcoming, with a team lead by Rachel Gaetano Griffith, that's passionate about sharing their love of Italian culture and cuisine. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or stocking up on Italian goodies, this deli is a must-visit destination in Astoria.

It's starting to feel painful in my wallet to come order a sandwich ... especially when we're then also expected to add a tip. I hate it how the payment screen gets flipped to me to "finish the transaction" (read: add tip). This is not sustainable. Where are the times where tipping was meant for waiters and service personnel who did something extra for the patrons? Why are we now also supposed to tip when we go order takeout (bakeries now also expect tips when you go buy a bread). What's next?...tip when we go to the grocery store?
Before August 2022: Nice Italian import store. Love the vegetarian Caprese sandwich. Finally a place where we can get some of the famous, healthy Mediterranean diet! Wish they offered more vegetarian/pescetarian options. The new "The Goat" sandwich (vegetarian with goat cheese) is fantastic!!! I think this place probably has the best sandwiches in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was the best place to eat, by far, of the several restaurants we tried during our five day trip to Cannon Beach and surrounding areas. Thank goodness my daughter suggested sandwiches for lunch! I got the Italian, my girls got Italian clubs, and pasta salad. I'm so used to a sandwich kicking me in the mouth with pepperoncinis and whatnot. It took a second to process what I was eating: Really exceptional food. I wasn't used to it. Two things I wish I'd have done differently: Known about this place earlier, and stayed somewhere within walking distance. I could easily eat here daily. It is a treasure, an absolute treasure. Real, simple, good food that trusts the audience, so to speak. What a...
