My husband and I was shopping in Athens,OH when we decided to try Shade on State St. for the first time.This had to be the most horrible experience we have ever had in a restaurant. We arrived at about 5:00pm on Tuesday 11/24/15. The establishment was not too busy most of the crowd was in the bar. It took about 10 min for the waitress(Nadja) to show. I told Nadja that we had never been there before & will need a few minutes to look at the menu.I asked for a coke & my husband a Sam Adams Seasonal.The Coke arrived flat so I wanted an import beer instead. I requested an Amstel Light or St Paulie Girl. As she was checking on the availability of these I noticed an Amstel in the cooler behind the bar. She returned after a long wait with a beer list and said they dont have any of those beers.I went to the bar & showed her what beer Amstel was & it was also on the list she returned with.It took an unusually long time to get it to the table.We placed our order at that time. My husband wanted to try the "cheesy pig" and I ordered mild boneless wings with cheesy fry as appetizer. When our food came my husband received a mac n cheese instead and I was not impressed with the wings as they seemed to have no taste/no sauce or dry rub on it at all. The cheesy fries turned out excellent. When the waitress eventually returned she said someone grabbed the wrong thing & came back with "the cheesy pig" for him which was cold by then. When we received our check the Coke and Mac n cheese was still on our bill! We asked her to remove it.We spent a total of $33.54 not including tip.We were extremely disappointed & very aggravated with this very long visit and especially the rude treatment we received. I used to bartend in my college days & there were a few people that really needed cut off as they were yelling,singing,groping each other in this "restaurant". It made both of us very uncomfortable as we were trying to eat and have a conversation.I wrote the company 3 times with no reply. That shows me they are not professionals or want their business to succeed.Dont risk your hard earned $$ at a lousy business - AVOID THIS...

I am writing this letter about the very poor service my wife and I received on this past Saturday,January 21, 2023.
I have listed it in order that it occurred:
I placed a takeout order by phone at 2:57 pm on Saturday afternoon. I was told the order would be ready in 25 to 30 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant and paid for the order at 3:21 pm. The waitress told us she would check on the order and get back to us when it was ready. We saw her immediately go to the kitchen, but she came back out numerous times and never updated us on our order. We waited…. At 3:41( I checked my watch) we still had not received my order or any update. I then approached a different wait person and inquired about our order. She said she’d go check on it. We again did not receive our order and the wait person never returned… Finally at 3:53(watch time) I’d had enough. I again approached a different wait person at the counter and explained what was going on. I told her if my order wasn’t coming I would just like our money back. She said she’d go check on it. I was handed our order at 4:03 pm with a “sorry about your wait”. We took our order and left. We drove home.(approximately 15 minutes) When we arrived home we had a horrible surprise! The hamburgers were 75% burned and completely cold and dry. They actually looked like they had been sitting an hour or more. The buns were completely soggy. We shouldn’t have eaten them, but we were starving by then. They actually tasted like eating charcoal! I wish I had taken pictures ! The French fries were soggy and luke warm. The wings were good flavored but not warm. Even the grease was jelling.

Read moreMy husband placed a carry out order for our family’s dinner over the phone. Order was 5 boneless wings, 5 traditional wings and the Brisket Pizza. When he arrived to pick up the order he was told they didn’t have the right cheese to make that pizza and took it off of his bill. He asked why no one called him to let him know this so that he could order something to replace it so that our whole family could have something to eat for dinner. He was told that they didn’t have his phone number and they didn’t do that. They were totally unapologetic. They asked if he wanted to order something else but obviously he would have to wait on it to be prepared. My husband had already had a long day and a hungry family at home waiting on him. This is why he called ahead!! In this day & age I find it hard to believe that they don’t have caller ID. Why would you not get a customer’s phone number?! To top it all off, the food we ended up with was subpar. One of the traditional wings was all fat & grissel so it couldn’t even be eaten.
