I just picked up my order of three Italian subs. I was hesitant because the first and last time I ordered 3 subs, I arrived to find they made 1 of 3. The manager asked if I wanted them to make the other 2. I said no, refund my money, which they did. For whatever reason I decided to give the cottage another try. I walk in tell the girl working the counter I was there for my order, 3 subs. She walks over and looks at a single sub in a bag. She says nothing but heads to the back. I say quite loudly, you did it again didn't you! Made 1 sub instead of 3. The girl comes back around and says yes "they" only made one sub. Then she says she will get a manager for me. She walks off and comes back. I said how does this happen. She says " I didn't do it, I don't make food, I work in the dining room and I am just helping back here". I said look, you wear the brand, that makes you just as responsible as the person flipping pizza into an oven, to which she responds, "I don't even like my job". Then the manager appears. I said hello, recognize me. He says yes. I said why do you recognize me. He said you had the order for 3 subs and we only made 1. I said yes and you did it again. So I hadn't noticed that he came to the window with $5 off coupons in his hand. He said would you like for me to make two more subs. I asked how long it would take. He says about 5 minutes . So I don't have to watch for a credit on my statement and drive to Donatos again I agree. He asks if I want a beverage while I wait, I said no. He gave me the 4 coupons and walked back to where the subs were being made. I couldn't help but think that my order came to $32 and change. Odd that he gave me $20 in coupons. At any rate, he brought the subs up when finished and asked if I wanted a 20 oz soda for the ride, I declined. He asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I hesitated for a few moments pondering whether I should tell him that he needed to coach his employee on what not to say to a customer who is unhappy due to his experience,. Definitely don't say it's not my job and DEFINITELY don't say I don't like my job. I can't say those coupons will ever get used. I'm not one to expect something for nothing but I do expect to get...
Read moreMy partner and I walked away from Pizza Cottage calling the establishment Pizza Tent because the new name better reflected the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere.
As soon as we entered the building, a delicious aroma hit our noses. We were excited as we waltzed through the aisles adorned with generic pizza restaurant decor. Service was slow, but the place was busy. We ordered the jalepeño poppers, which were underwhelming. They came to our table lukewarm and weren't crispy. They tasted like boxed jalepeño poppers from the frozen aisle at the grocery store. Dare I say, Sonic has a much stronger popper game.
Next, we ordered one personal pizza each. My partner got a Mexican pizza, which was just okay. It tasted just like a burrito from Taco Bell. I got the loaded baked potato pizza. It was very simple. The crust was thin and the flavor was as expected. Neither pizza wowed us, yet, the pizzas were somehow still the best part of our meal.
We topped off our meal with a dessert pizza. If Gordon Ramsay filmed an episode of Kitchen Nightmares at Pizza Cottage, the entire 30 minute episode could have been Ramsay scraping off the sugar pile from the top of the dessert pizza. The toppings actually formed a pile, with a heaping one inch tall pile of brown sugar and cinnamon in the middle of the pie. The flavors were overpowering and one note.it was literally just brown sugar and cinnamon on crust. There was so much sugar, it was like I was biting through a pile of sand.
After a faux pas with our check, we left the restaurant feeling simultaneously hungry from the mismatched portion sizes and ill from the dessert pizza.
There are plenty of better pizza places in Athens. Unless you are a dad who wants to watch the football game and throw back a few Coronas while your kids eat cheap pizza, I would not...
Read moreOur first mistake was ordering delivery, apparently. They outsource 3rd party on their website through DoorDash, which is finicky at best, so this isn’t entirely Pizza Cottages fault. However, it took about two hours for us to have our food delivered when I was quoted at 45 minutes for my delivery time. A little annoying but not that big of a deal. Most places, especially those with a large dine-in area like Pizza Cottage have heat lamps/ heating cabinets for food to sit and stay remotely warm whilst waiting to be picked up. However, our food was apparently not placed in/under either of these. Stone cold and unpleasant by the time we finally received it. Unfortunate, since the flavor for the sauce was great and there was a decent amount of topping on our items. Long story short, just don’t get delivery here until they get their own drivers or stop outsourcing through doordash specifically. Had the food been hot, it would’ve been a whole...
