I’ve lived in San Mateo County for almost two decades and have heard tales of the Saddle Room, but this is my first visit. It’s a tiny, hole-in-the-wall, old-school Redwood City dive bar. As the name implies, it’s a western theme, and I assume it has a lot to do with all of the horse ranches further out Woodside Rd. I don’t know how true it is, but I feel like the Saddle Room was one of the few businesses along this stretch of Woodside Road remaining from when this was the southwestern edge of town. There’s a back patio that we did not explore. The bar inside is tiny, old, and cluttered. You won’t like it if you’re claustrophobic, but you’ll love it if you want to feel like you just walked into an old-time wagon trail watering hole. While enjoying our heavy pours, we heard different music, from country to 80s synth-pop, to which the same folks sang. Read moreIt's like Cheers... the old TV show.... a true neighborhood joint... people know each other, new folks are always embraced... darts, many sports TV games on probably 10 or more TVs, very female safe (older regular males protect women like daughters)... ok its just a cool place with mostly good clients... oh yea... the owner cares about your experience... offers free fresh snacks most happy ours during the week, Monday night football dinners are $5... and prepared by signups... regulars...it also is the head quarters for a 501c3 charitable foundation... all around great spot... beer, well less than $4, high calls, less than $8... good folks... We all were surprised to see how many people showed up and lots of his friends from many years ago. We had a fantastic time on their patio. The food was good and the atmosphere was fantastic.
